Backup exec 12d - e0008115 - Physical volume library, or robot paused, offline, or disabled
Hi can anyone help, I've recently installed backup exec 12d but everytime i run a job including just an inventory the job fails with this error: e0008115 - Physical Volume Library Drive or Robot paused, offline, or disabled I then go to 'Devices' and see that the HP drive that i'm using is now Offline. I select it to be Online again, run another inventory jobbut i receive the above error message again and the Drive appears offline again. All the latest drivers for the tape drive is installed, it has been rebooted and have also rebooted the server but nothing seems to correct this problem. Can anyone help. I've never encountered any problems like this when i've installed previous version of backup exec so is there any known problems with 12d?2.7KViews0likes2CommentsSimplified Disaster Recovery Disk_Drivers
Hi. I'm creating aSDR for a W2008R2 Dell PE510 file server running BEX 2014. I want to make sure it is correct. I wastrying to add Dell network card and SAS controller drivers downloaded from their website and oem#.inf drivers stored on the server, but now I am not sure if I need to do thisor if they are automatically added to the SDR image by the wizard. When I try to add the drivers i get a few messages for the different drivers like "A newer or same version of the driver already exists in the database". Are installed drivers of the backed up server already automatically populated into the SDR by the wizzard? What type of drivers should be added to the list (eg. i have an external tape drive attached to one of the controllers)? Tnx...1.4KViews0likes3CommentsBackupExec 2010 dropping tape drive offline
Hi, This is a new topic to re-open the issue discussed here: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/tape-drive-goes-offline-second-backup Just to recap on the issue itself: Running BE2010 Trial on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64. Hardware is Dell R710 rack server, connected to a HP Ultrium 1760 LTO4 SAS drive via a Dell PERC 6/E SAS Adaptor card. This is what’s happening: Setup and run a backup job with full verify. I’ve tested up to a 250GB job and it completes fine the first time around. After completion of first job, rerun the same backup job (after tweaking the media overwrite/append etc settings) The job immediately fails, reporting the drive as offline – cannot bring drive back online using BackupExec administrator Close BackupExec administrator, restart BackupExec Device/Media service (which also restarts associated service dependencies). Re-open BackupExec administrator - drive appears to be online again, ready for another job to be kicked off. I’ve completely replaced: Numerous LTO tapes The Dell SAS adaptor that connects the Dell server to the HP rack chassis The HP Rack chassis that houses the 1U internal HP LTO4 Ultrium 1760 SAS drive, SAS adaptor board and all The internal HP LTO Ultrium 1760 drive itself We’ve verified that all above component drivers and firmware are fully up to date. This problem occurs with both Symantec Tape Drive drivers and HP's official LTO4 tape drivers, To me, the following facts suggest that the problem lies with BackupExec itself: After the drive goes offline, a simple restart of the BackupExec services seems to bring it back online again If the drive goes offline, and I stop the BackupExec Device/Media service, I can still access the drive using HP LTT utility, and HP Data Protector Express – only BackupExec detects the drive as offline. We’ve replaced all possible hardware components and the problem still remains This problem only ever occurs with BE, I'm testing with HP Data Proctector Express and MS's Data Protection Manager - all work fine. Luckily, I haven't bought a license for BackupExec yet, however this means I doubt Symantec Support will be willing to spend too much time on it, so I might be forced to go with MS's Data Protection Manager instead if I can't get a resolution soon. Has anyone seen/resolved this issue before? AlistairSolved8.8KViews1like40CommentsData centre migration - NetBackup BMR for Solaris clients
Need some advise on migration strategy to migrate Solaris based physical clients from one DC to another. The target DC is a different NetBackup domain. The client data is hosted on EMC and NetApp storage. There isno network connectivity between source and target data centres. The cutover options are likely to be limited to the physical transfer and restore of data using tapemedia. The targetDC server hardware and firmware will be "near"identical to the source environment. I am planning to use NetBackup BMR (currently NBU is being used in source DC for client backup with NO BMR). I understandthat a BMR master server and Boot Server (seperate boot server) needs to beintroduced. The SRT process The target DC will have NBU Master/Media servers and a compatible storage library. Image import (2 phase import) from tape media will be required I need to use network boot option as transfer of boot media (CD/DVD) will not be allowed Can I transfer thenetwork boot image on tape to the target DC and restore on target client? Do I need BMR master and boot server in target DC? What else do I need in the source and target DCs?Solved2.6KViews0likes21CommentsNetBackup SSO - issues writing to tape library across the domain
I am having some issues in writing to a shared (SSO) library from across the AD domain. We have capacity based licensing model using NetBackup version 7.1.0.4 There are 2 x AD domains A.local & B.com: There is a firewall between the two AD domains. However, upon request all the ports for AD and NBU across the firewall have been allowed. The name resolution has been tested. The A.local domain has 1 x NBU Master and 2 x Media servers (on seperate physical boxes) running on Windows 2008 R2. The shared tape library (4 drives) is zoned to one of the Media server in A.local domain. The 4 drives are also shared for NDMP backups. Issue: Now, a new Media server on Windows 2008 R2 in B.com domain has been introduced connected to the NetBackup Master server in A.local. The new Media server is able to communicate with the Master server and completing successful backups (of some B.com domain clients, some failing with handshaking issues) to the storage disk pool attached to this Media server. I managed to add the library and all 4 x drives through the storage configuration wizard and it allows me to create storage pool. When I try to duplicate the backups from B.com Media server using the tape library connected to A.local Media server, the duplicate job hungs with error "the drives are down". When I look at the device status, the drive showing the new media server name against it shows AVR mode. On the new media server i ran "vmoprcmd -d -h", the output is as follows; PENDING REQUESTS <NONE> DRIVE STATUS Drv Type Control User Label RecMID ExtMID Ready Wr.Enbl. Hi, We have the following details :- 1. Two Hyper-V server (Windows 2008 R2). 2. BE 2012 SP1on Windows 2008 R2. 3. Tape Library (Single Drive).(24 slots) 4. Storage (EMC VNXe 3100). We have partitioned the tape library where two slots on each partition. Now , my query is as follows:- We have a policy where we are using a particula partiion of the backup destination location. And we have one tape on to the slot (Among the two slot), I mean to say that the each partition is having one tape. When I excute the backup policy we found that the tape which its was using to take backup got filled and As I told We have one tape in each partition, now Will this work if I put a scratch tape in to the seconf slot of that partition on the fly (in mioddle of job running). Or I need to stop the entire backup jos and put more tape and start the backup once more. OR I need to change the tape form that particula slot and use a scratch tape on to the same slot on the fly(when backup jos is running). Hey. I have just re-built a Dell PowerEdge 1800 Serverwith Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard (SP1). Attached to it I have 3 tape drives (via SCSI) : Quantum Super loader 3 Seagate Viper 2000 HP DAT160 Previously the server was running Server 2003, the Hardware has not changed. I have installed Backup Exec 2012 + all the updates (using live updates). I have also updated the server with all the latest Microsoft patches. Initially I had a problem with the quantum and the viper with VERY slow job rate's (5.00 MB/Min). From past experience I knew the "medium changer devices" drivers would be the cause. I have changed (well removed) the quantum driver so now it says "Unknown Medium Changer" in device manager and the backup job rate speed is as it should be and all is fine with that loader. But I still have the problem with the Seagate viper 2000. Does anyone know what driver I should be using for the Seagate Viper 2000? And where I could get it from? Both the “medium changer” driver and “Tape drive” driver? I have attached an image of the current driver and version for what is installed under “medium changer” in device manager as this is the one I believe is causing the problem! Any help much appreciated!Solved976Views1like4CommentsHow to use maximum slots of SL500 StorageTek tape library?
