not able to initialize the disk
I had a disk under VxVM control. I removed it from VxVM control. Again when I added the same disk, it is not allowing me to initialize .Also I feel, it is showing wrong multipaths in vxdisk list output. root@dbpdadc42> vxdisksetup -i c0t500507680140533Ad8 VxVM vxdisksetup ERROR V-5-2-3523 c0t500507680140533Ad8: Disk is in use root@dbpdadc42> vxdisk list c0t500507680140533Ad8 Device: c0t500507680140533Ad8s2 devicetag: c0t500507680140533Ad8 type: auto info: format=none flags: online ready private autoconfig invalid pubpaths: block=/dev/vx/dmp/c0t500507680140533Ad8s2 char=/dev/vx/rdmp/c0t500507680140533Ad8s2 Multipathing information: numpaths: 4 c1t500507680130064Ad10s2 state=enabled c1t500507680130533Ad10s2 state=enabled c0t500507680140064Ad10s2 state=enabled c0t500507680140533Ad10s2 state=enabled1.2KViews4likes4CommentsIssue while Extending file system in vxvm

Hi all, I have a V240 running Solaris 10U08 with VxVM 6.0.000 that I need to migrate to a Solaris T4-2 Ldom (LDM 3.1). I have loaded the software that is in source onto the LDOM and presented the required SAN LUNs that match source into the guest LDOM but when I try to set up a disk (LUN) in VxVM using vxdisksetup I get: "ERROR V-5-2-43 c0d3: Invalid disk device for vxdisksetup". I have tried using vxdisk init c0d3s2and get: "Disk sector size is not supported" and tried vxdisk init c0d3s2 format=sliced and get: "Disk VTOC does not list private partition"Don't know xhat else to try !!!1.8KViews2likes8CommentsDMP and MPxIO doubt
All the LUNs are under vxvm. If I want to use MPxIO instead of DMP for those LUNs, what is the proper method to do it? I have seen a method saying that we need to delete dmp/rdmp directories... is it required? Should I disable DMP in any way or I just need to enable MPxIO via stmsboot -e with out disabling DMP ? ?Solved986Views2likes1CommentNew set of articles about troubleshooting the "failed" disk status, as reported by vxdisk
Hi, all. We have released a set of articles that contain information about troubleshooting the "failed" disk status, as reported by vxdisk. Here is the link: "Failed" or "failed was" is reported by vxdisk http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH200618 Since this is a broad topic, the "technote" is actually a set of about a dozen article that have been organized into a logical tree structure, with TECH200618 at its "root." Let us know what you think! Regards, Mike498Views2likes0CommentsAIX: vxdisksetup error: invalid disk device for vxdisksetup
Hello, I have an issue on AIX 5.3 when running vxdisksetup and I've searched high and low but can't find a solution. # /etc/vx/bin/vxdisksetup -i hdisk48 "VxVM vxdisksetup ERROR V-5-2-43 hdisk48: Invalid disk device for vxdisksetup" I'm adding (4) new devices from a EMC CLARiiON array. I was able to successfully initilaize (3) of the devices but, for some reason, I can't initialize the 4th device. I've ran: vxdisk path vxdmpadm getdmpnode enclosure=EMC_CLARiiON0 vxdmpadm getdmpnode nodename=hdisk48 So far, it looks like everything is in place so I'm not sure what's going on. I found this technote but it's for Solaris: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH9605 Is there a similar procedure for AIX? Or, does anyone have commands I could run. If the information is too vague, let me know and I can provide additional information. Thanks in advance -Chip1.1KViews2likes3CommentsTrouble converting FileSystem metadata with fscdsconv in Linux
Hello everyone, I'm in the process of migrating a Solaris 5.10 server to Linux Red Hat 6.4 At this point, I'm trying to convert the byte order of some volumesthat come from Solaris in my Linux server using the following command: /opt/VRTS/bin/fscdsconv -y -e -f /tmp/vxConv/dbtemp01.tmp -t os_name=Linux,arch=x86 /dev/vx/rdsk/dgtemp/dbtemp01 Note: Because of the text formating, the above command could span two lines, but it I'mexecuting itin just one And I get the following errors: UX:vxfs fscdsconv: ERROR: V-3-20012: not a valid vxfs file system UX:vxfs fscdsconv: ERROR: V-3-24426: fscdsconv: Failed to migrate. Searching for a solution of these errors in the forums, I've found this post, where the user mikeboundsgives some steps to migrate Solaris to Linux. I've found that I've replicated these steps but I get stuck on the fscdsconv because the beforementioned errors. Does anyone know what could be happening here or have any sugestion to share? Here goes: I have a need to migrate a numebr of large files from several servers to a linux based system from HP-UX 11.23. The data resides on VXFS version 6 filesystems on san storage. I have found LVM tools that allow me to make the MVM structures visible as disks that show up in device mapper on the linux side and I can run strings and dd on the luns and they SEEM to contain the appropriate data. The data itself is in Intersystems Cache database chunks. If I can get the actual files copied over, I can do an endian conversion on them and start using them immediately in the new environment. My problem is transport. I have several 32 GB file that need to be moved and while I haven't done time tests, I am assuming the actual migration time may be prohibitive. I have downloaded a trial of Storage Essentials and installed it on the linux server, but after I make the logical volume visible, I getthe following error when trying to perform the mount: UX:vxfs mount.vxfs: ERROR: V-3-25584: /dev/mapper/vg1220625654-lvol1 is not a supported device UX:vxfs mount.vxfs: ERROR: V-3-24996: Unable to get disk layout version Any help is appreciated. I have been searching high and low on the web, but can't seem to find any current threads about this. There are some older ones about freevxfs that used toexist for linux, but they all said it doesn't work with newer versions of vxfs filesystems. Thanks!Solved2.7KViews1like2Comments
