System Recovery vs. Backup Exec
We have been using / recommending Backup Exec to our clients and are considering System Recovery instead. I found this in another post about this topic. Is everthing correct? Any other comments? Backupexec 2010 a. File based b. Can backup to tape c. Can restore individual email d. Can do bare metal restore to SAME/SIMILAR hardware e. easy to take tapes offsite BE System Recovery (BESR) a. image based b. cannot backup to tape c. cannot restore individual email (restore whole information store from image file) d. can do Hardware Independent Restore e. can be set to backup incremental every 15 mins with almost no impact on performance f. easily import image to VM in case of total failure (i.e. server room fire)4.1KViews3likes3Commentsimpossible de faire un sauvegarde avec SSR 2013 R2 sur disque dur USB
Boris.1.8KViews0likes10CommentsSPS
Hi, Please help me with below. Currently, there are some PC running under enterprise edition 4.0 and we are trying to renew 21 licenses of version 4.0. We have one PC managing the deployment and will it be issue if we have two types of licenses such as v4.0 and v4.1. We are also using System recover feature and now that this feature is removed on enterprise edition 4.1 and need to buy separate license. Appreciate any help on this.1.2KViews0likes3CommentsNo "Recovery Point Type" Panel in SSR 2013 R2 Trial?
Hi, I'm evaluating the SSR 2013 R2 trial and have been unable to confiure drive-based backup jobs for incremental backups (i.e., Recovery point set instead of independent recovery point). When I define backup jobs I never see the "recovery point type" panel where specification of this characteristic is supposed to be available; the wizard just skips from the "Drives" panel directly to the "Backup Destination" panel (and skips the "Recovery Point Type" panel). All resulting jobs end up being configured as independent recovery points. As a result each backup takes up a huge amount of destination drive space. I've previously used SSR 2013 (non-R2) and these jobs were configured correctly as "recovery point sets". Is this a limitation of the trial software? Details: 0xE4F3000E This is what we have already done: - In Trend Micro Antivirus we have excluded the Symantec folder - attached new external USB Drives - removed old Devices from the device list - created new backup jobs - split the jobs, one for each drive - changed backup start time - turned encryption on/off - weekly defrag of drives (max. 3-4% fragmentation) - manually creating a shadowcopy works OK - ran C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec System Recovery\Fixinstall.bat Additional information: > vssadmin list providers: "Microsoft Software Shadow Copy provider 1.0" (should be standard for 2013 version) - If we run "vssadmin list writers", many appear in a " bad state" and we only can fix this with a server restart. - After the server restart, every writer is fine and the backup works for a few days (max 1 week) - However, if you log onto the server and manually start the backup, it works! Only the scheduled job aborts after 10 minutes. Any ideas or tips on what we can do to try and resolve this problem? Many thanks.777Views0likes1CommentRecommended NAS devices for use with Symantec System recovery 2013
Can anyone recommend a NAS device (make or brand) that is compatible with this piece of software? Currently I back up 2 x client PCs Win 7 64 bit, to external drives but as belt and braces, I'd like to add both backups from the machines to a NAS device. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.
