Unable to backup to NAS drive
Hi, I've just purchased a 1Tb Western Digital NAS drive and would like to know how to configure the HDD for NAS backup using NDMP. Additionally, I can see the network shares in Windows Explorer, however, I cannot backup to those shares using Symantec. If NAS will not work for the WD My Book World Edition how do I backup to a UNC path? Thanks in advance, WayneSolved1.4KViews0likes4CommentsBackup Exec 2015 - Agent For Windows???
Hello all - I am currently upgrading my servers (FROM:Windows 2008 R2 withBackup Exec 2010 R3,TO:Server 2012 R2 with Backup Exec 2015). I do not recall everneeding a separate - 'Agent for Windows' when I purchased my licenses Backup Exec 2010 R3. *Therefore my question is, will I now be missing functionality that I had before with 2010 R3?* Thanks in advance! :)4.5KViews0likes19Commentswhen i login to symantec BE 2014 it will through error message

Hi, brand new to Backup Exec 15. I suspect you would probably prefer to make this 3 different posts but it was hard enough finding the option to post this one. I remember the glory days of being able to call a person and have a factory person walk you though some things in 10-30mins and have your problem resolved. Aren't they trying to sell this to me??? Brand new installation on local machine only. One instance of SQL 2005 running but want new SQL 2008 R2 for this tool. 1. installation log does not indicate SQL 2008was installed but during installation the process took 10-20mins. Is there a way to check; it is not in my SQL server configuration manager and it does not appear in my "services" manager. Can I simply run a custom install described in the manual and force it on? Of course I am the admin; I builtthis box. If I force it on how do I point Backup Exec 15 to SQL 2008as that wasn't covered in the manual exactly. 2. I exported the encryption key to my local C drive and it is not there. Whats up whit that? *3. In configuration storage options I can not seem to get the Backup Exec 15 to permit me to add a local network storage optionas mybackup target. I can only get local storage, cloud storage, or tape. Am I to assume I should be installing the Backup Exec 15 on my target system and run the agent on the server I want backed up? Where was that topology example on the website? This is day one of my 60 day trial. This is the feature advertised on the website and in the manual I need. 4. Any other suggestions known that permit incremental backups to network storage or file shares where the program runson the server being backed up. Server 2012 R2's built in solution pushes a whole new backup everyday and writes over the existing; realy lame.913Views0likes2CommentsLicense- need information
we have enoughBackup Exec 15 licenses of “Agent for Windows” but not “Agent for Applications and Databases”. We wonder the consequences of only having Agent for Windows license for backing up the below server types: SharePoint Farm Exchange Microsoft SQL Database cluster Active Directory Domain Controller If we just need file-level restoration of SQL DB, AD DB, Exchange DB and SharePoint DB (i.e. do not need mail-level, user object restoration, database record restoration, etc.), could we just use Agent for Windows for the servers?Solved1.3KViews0likes2CommentsBackup Exec 15 Comparison Matrix with Acronis, EMC and DoubleTake

Hi guys, Trying to backup 2 servers to 1 tape when seems to back them up fine but it overwrites the 1st server when backing up the 2nd server, so only end up with the 2nd server backed up. I think I'm doing it right but would lilke some clarification if at all possible please. I've got my 1st server (Job) set to "Overwrite Media" and the 2nd Server (Job) set to "append to Media, overwrite if not appendable media is available". In the backup settings/storage I've just set this morning for tonight, I've set it to "Partial protection" and unticked the prompt option. Before it was set to NONE but before that it was on FULL protection and wouldn't backup because it complained it was protected. The backup sets are set as followed; Protection period - 3 weeks Append period - Infinite - Allow append I had the backup sets like this in 2010 and backing up to a NAS box which seemed to work fine and itkept the data until the protection period had expired. If I backed up any other data before the expriation dateit just added to it instead ofoverwriting it. I would like to backup both servers on 1 tape and keep about 2-3 weeks worth backups before overwriting anything, what am I doing wrong? Since installing FP3 on my Backup Exec 15 servers, I can no longer backup my Hyper-V VMs using Full VM Image backup. I am forced to use the Agent based backups. The reason is that when backing up VMs with the Full VM Image backup (VHDX), it creates checkpoints that do NOT automatically merge back into the parent VHDX, and then when I manually merge the AVHDX into the parent, I get an orphaned checkpoint file for that VM. And these problems are just for small VMs with 1 VHDX file. What's worse, when I try to backup my Exchange 2013 CU10 server using Full VM IMage backup, which has 13 VHDX files, it dies when it starts backing up the very first Database, every single time! I then have to kill the BackupExec services, go to the Failover Cluster node that owns my Exchange Server, kill the VMMS service and restart it. Only then do the AVHDX files then automatically merge. Sometimes I have to power down my Exchange Server to get the merge to work. Then since I have not been able to backup my Exchange Server for a while, the logs files are still growing. I am forced to resort to using an agent based backup, but this is NOT ideal for a VM. FP3 is NOT able to be uninstalled either. So now if I want to revert back to FP2, I would have to blow away my entire BE 15 install and start from scratch. Again, not ideal! I have been in touch with tech support about this but they only suggested to change the global settings for VMs, Change to "Use the Standard processing method" instead of the "Faster Processing method". Trouble is, that is for INCREMENTAL backups, and I do a FULL backup everyday. I would like to know when this major problem will be fixed.Solved1.7KViews0likes4CommentsHow to Restore backup files in Case that Backup Exec Server broken
