I have a master server version 7.0.1 running on a Solaris 10 boxwith a direct connected SL48 tape library attached that performs all of our local backups. I would like to attach a C4 library to one of the Solaris clients in another building to do myNetApp filer backups. The C4 library is attached to the client and I can see the library and the drives from the OS. What process do I need to perform to allow this server to do the filer backups. If there is a library attached to it, does it need to have a mediaserver installed on it? Do I need to install the master on it as well? Where do I define the robot and drives? From the original master server? Do Ineed to create anything from the new server side console? I've read I need to update the bp.confs on both sides. With what? Please, if any one has any direction for me, I'd appreciate it. thanks, rickSolved2.9KViews1like20CommentsStatus 58 Can't connect to client

p { margin-bottom: 0.21cm; } Hi Everyone! I was hoping to get some feed back on and issue I am currently tasked with. We are currently using Netbackup 6.5.5 in our head office with about 100 servers with DSU and tape library. We also have 7 remote offices that are using an older backup exec version and pushing their SDLT 320 tapes to their storage limit. Option 1: Upgrade to a newer version of backup exec and purchase new LTO 3 or 4 tape drivers. Option 2: Purchase the 7 LTO 3 or 4 tapes drives and install a media server in each of the 7 sites and run the policies from head office. I like option number 2 so that we can eventually take had advantage of puredisk and technologies like that but at this time I am strapped for time and also have a slow wan link between a few sites. So my questions are: 1.Has anyone done this and will I need a second master server to handle the load. 2. Will I need to pay for a full licence for each media server. I understand that there are contracts or licences to pay for per TB that you backup and have access to everything but we are federal government and don't seem to have that option. Thanks a bunch!Solved2.2KViews1like15CommentsUpgrading OpenSSL in NetBackup
Hello, I'm having a security issue with NetBackup. Basically I need to upgrade the installed version of OpenSSL that came with NetBackup. If the OpenSSL is not effected by the current and past vulnerabilities then I need to see document from Symantec. Theses are the files I need to upgrade /usr/openv/pdde/pdopensource/bin/.bin/openssl /usr/openv/pdde/pdopensource/bin/openssl OpenSSL 0.9.8y This is the version I need to be up to date. OpenSSL 0.9.8za OpenSSL 1.0.0m OpenSSL 1.0.1h I have had this issue before. Below is a link to by earlier post asking this question. http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/openssl-use-netbackup-7102 I have had this same issue with Java before. This the Symantec fix http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH148257 This fix is to use the OpenSSL that the OS is using. Is there a way to do this for SSL? I have opened a ticket with support and they don't know anything. They are not able to help me. Can someone help me secure my sever.Solved1.8KViews0likes9CommentsIncorrect Inventory of C4 library
I have a Solaris 10 master/media server running 7.0.1and a Solaris 10media server (7.0.1) with a direct connected C4 Tape library. Recently I had Oracle replace the hand in the library. I did an inventory from the library's admin console, moved tapes from slot to slot, slot to drive and did a scsi "mt" and saw the tape in the drive. In Netbackup, I removed the drives, storage devices and robot and ran the "Configure Storage Devices" wizard. When I did an "Inventory Robot..."->"Show contents"->"Start" I see only 2 of the 36 slots: Robot Contents Slot Tape Barcode === ==== ====== 1No 2 No When I do a "Preview volume configuration changes I get, "Volume configuration is up-to-date with robot contents. I stopped and restarted the daemons on both the master and media server that the library is connected to. Not sure what to do next aside from removing the media server and readding it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Solved1.2KViews0likes7CommentsMoving old db/image/ClientX from 6.5 to 7.5 and trying to restore
Morning Colleagues... I have a dilema which I feel I am in big trouble with... maybe you can help... We had an old system; MASTER_A with v6.5 and approximately 1TB catalog. We got new hardware: MASTER_B with v6.5. We did NOT migrate the old catalog from MASTER_A into this system. We started a FRESH system per se. This system was eventually upgraded to v7.5.0.3 and that's the current version... also about ~1TB Catalog MASTER_A is now offline and decommissioned, however all tapes are still available and we kept the db/images folders from that system. And of course, now we need to do a restore from MASTER_A with the old version of 6.5. In the past, we were able to simple move db/images around to different systems and be able to restore or use ALTPATH to that secondary image folder and restore what we needed. Now that in 7.5, the db was modified and Image Metadatawas moved into NBDB..etc... we tried to move an old db/image/client folder into the current active path of the images, and of course as you guessed.. the restore gui doesnt see our little friends: green circle with check mark or blue circle with + mark... etc... I was able to locate this article: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH198295 Which I read as: during the ugprade from 6.5 to 7.5..some users that used ALTPATH may not have properly migrated all their imagesand those images are currently not restorable.. but install 7.5.0.4 to resolve this? Am I reading this correctly? Or, higher powers forbit...do I need to build another 6.5 system to do arestore?!?!
