Updated to BE21 now certain services won't start.
Background: We have a legacy standalone BE server with two autoloading tape drives attached to it with YEARS of backups. We recently configued a new virtualized server with disc to disc backups in our HC3 (hyperconverged) environment, and used our perpetual licensing on this new server. Naturally, the old server started to complain about lack of licensing recently (it took awhile), and will no longer let us pull data from the tapes. On the advice of a Veritas Engineer I was recently in contact with, we upgraded the legacy standalone server using the trial download/license for BE21. After restarting the server, select services will not start and as a result, the console will not open. (see attached screen grab) The errors are indicative of "failed user credentials" for at least ONE service, and then "dependancy" failures for the rest... but how can the user credentials fail when the other services start just fine? Help me get this working, there must be some legacy settings that need to be removed in order for this new BE21 to fire up properly... I just can't narrow it down.Solved1KViews0likes2CommentsCustom Edition licensing Hyper-V / VMware licensing Windows/Linux agent question
I've come across this thread about licensing of the Hyper-V agent as we currently have an old Custom Edition licensing (or à la carte). The original license have been bought at least back when BE 15 was the current version and where no Subscription or Bronze/Silver/Gold editions even existed. Yet in the current BE 20.3 licensing guide on page 26 the same phrase appears but the Veritas support and the linked thread mentions that this would only apply to Windows agents, not Linux agents. All I can see there is that IF you have Bronze/Silver/Gold THEN the Hyper-V agent is included (not applicable to us as we have custom edition) yet still also says "Custom edition licensing: Each Agent for VMware and Hyper-V license includes unlimited deployment of Agent for Windows and Agent for Linux to the virtual machine guests of that licensed hypervisor host server only" In the old licensing guide of BE 15, page 17 the same phrase appears but without mentioning "custom edition" (since that was the modus operandi of licensing back then): https://www.veritas.com/content/support/en_US/doc/ka8f10000008Y28AAE So why if you have the custom edition AND have a support entitlement do we not have the Linux agents yet the licensing guide (if I try to read between lines and twist words) does not give us Linux agent support971Views0likes1CommentManaged Service Account Issue within Backup Exec
Hi I'm desperately trying to update our license for our backup exec server which acts as disaster recovery. However whenever I try to (see screenshots below) it asks for the managed service account password. I didn't think it was possible to get the managed service account password!!! No one in my team nor those that used to work here know what it is. Is anyone able to advise a) how I can get that password or b) workaround the issue. Please help!!!746Views0likes1CommentBackup Exec 2010 Serial Key?

Hello I have a question regarding the capacity licensing for Backup Exec. How does it work in the situation where you have 2 sites which backup and 2 licenses, which I assume means 2 Terrabytes of capacity? If media server one backups 1.2T, while server two backups 0.2T, would you need 3 terrabytes of licensing? Or is the capacity shared between the media servers? Best regards, Seeker716Views0likes1CommentBAckup Exec 2010 R3 Sp4

We currently use Symantec Backup 2010 / 2014 and purchase licenses on a per agent basis (as needed). Are company is growing and almost impossible to manage licenses anymore. I'd like to go the "Capacity Licensing" model, but now sure if our Quantum devices (Deduplication) will work with this type of licensing Also, does the capacity licensing model still provide licenses for SQL / Oracle agents? We also have a few sites, which use the DLO option. Is this also included? Thanks661Views1like2Comments
