BE 2012 and Data Domain w/ DDBoost
Background: So we have Backup Exec 2012 and two Data Domain DD620's. We have all the required licensing including the Data Domain DD Boost and replication licenses. I have installed the Open Storage Technology (OST) plugin 2.5.0.3 as suggested for the version of BE. Both DD boxes are visable and connected to my BE server. I have foud some documentation and a video that explains some of what I am looking for but not entirely and most of it is for BE2010. The BE 2012 documentation from DD is not up to date yet. I am trying to setup backups as my tape drive has had enough and is not working properly. Anyone I have talked to just says you backup to it, then I continue finding little things that need to be done. No verify, no precompression, some said no deduplication in the job, other said server side dedupe because DDBoost manages it with OST plugin. Too much information and not enough people knowing what to tell me. The DD weekend support guys don't know the software titles they just know the hardware. I need help now unfortunately... Question: What settings do I use for Backups? I have Active Directory, Exchange, SharePoint, and SQL agents.6.4KViews1like32CommentsGranular Restore 8.5 not able to open Exchange Mail

I always get the following error : ************************** (i) Make sure that the volume which contains 'N:\First Storage Group\Mailbox Database.edb' was selected for backup (ii) Try selecting a different Storage Group ************************** I get the same problem with all my databases... if I open the same backup with Granular Restore 8.0 (previous version), it's working fine. what can be the problem? should I contact Symantec to get this resolved?3.2KViews0likes51CommentsNetbackup, Sharepoint 2007 Cross farm restore - lab enviroment creator
I have to make restore of one SharePoint 2007 farm to another farm which will be used for lab and developing purposes, so both farm have to work in same time but with different names. GRT full and Full Non-GRT backup complete successfully without any warning. I’ve read checklist from article TECH148598, and clarify all settings. http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH148598 Restore process doesn’t start when I try to restore of SharePoint Web application as is advised in article HOWTO47543. I can restore without problems files from GRT backup. http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO47543 I’m just not sure how to configure properly Distributed Application Restore Mapping settings. In “NBU for SharePoint admin guide” there are not any examples. All backup goes to disk. NBU server is Netbackup 7.1 onto Windows Server 2008 R2. Production and lab frontend servers are SharePoint 2007 running onto Windows Server 2008 SP2 / 64 bits. SQL server is cluster, SQL 2008. I have following server configuration: Production SharePoint Farm: Intranet – Virtual name of NLB frontend SPSNode1 – Sharepoint frontend SPSNode2 - Sharepoint frontend ProdSQL – SQL cluster virtual name, backend in SharePoint config SQLnode1 – first node in SQL cluster SQLnode2 - second node in SQL cluster Lab SharePoint Farm: TESTintranet - Virtual name of NLB frontend TESTnode1 – frontend TESTnode2 – frontend TESTsql – SQL server, backend in SharePoint config Do you have any idea how to configure Distributed Application Restore Mapping? Setup Running Backup Exec 11d (latest version) with HF6 on a Windows 2003 R2 64 Bit server. I have installed the 64 Bit version of BackupExec 11d. All of SharePoint services are installed on a single server that points to a remote SQL server. I am running SQL 2005 SP2(not MSDE) on Windows 2003 R2 64 Bit server. SharePoint also is running the same OS. All of the servers reside on our private network and communications between them are not affected by a firewall. To make it easy until I got it working I am using my default BackupExec service account. During the troubleshooting process I verified that I had configured the backup server correctly using the Administrator's Manual. My BackupExec service account is a Domain Admin, a local admin on all servers in the SharePoint Farm and the backup server, has been granted full admin rights in SharePoint and on the SQL server and Databases. When I attempt to discover a SharePoint Farm or attempt to add the Farm manually the farm is not discovered and get an access denied. I have sent the logs to support (I have a contract) and have done everything they have asked and they have not discovered the problem. I have attempted the discovery while running the services with the debug switch and sent those logs to support also still nothing has been found. If I attempt to discover a SharePoint installation that is installed completely on one server including SQL the discovery succeeds. That installation was done on a Windows 2003 R2 32 Bit OS. Any help would be appriciated. Message Edited by Michael Ellis on 09-12-2007 07:57 AM2.2KViews1like35CommentsVM backup with the "file recovery" option, and GPT partitions
Hi all, In NetBackup, the feature "Enable file recovery from VM backup" is equivalent to Backup Exec's GRT backup and restore (Granular Recovery Technology). With this technology, basically you get to backup a VM as a whole, then it lets you restore it back either as a whole VM, or (if you want) just selectively restore individual files, individual Exchange mails, individual SQL DBs, individual Sharepoint objects and individual AD objects. With Backup Exec 2010 it is confirmed that GRT is NOT supported for GPT partitions inside VMs. GRT only works with MBR patitions. I couldn't find any official documentation anywhere about whether this has been "fixed" in Backup Exec 2012. With Netbackup. I also couldn't find any information regarding the following, but would appreciate if anyone could point me to some answers. In Netbackup 7.0.x and 7.1.x, let's say a VM's OS uses GPT partitions, and that the VM is backed up as a whole (using the policy type VMware): - Can normal flat files be individual restored? - Can MS SQL DBs be individual restored? - Can Exchange items be individual restored? (Answer is No: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO72087) - Can AD items be individual restored? - Can Sharepoint items be individual restored? - What about System State/Shadow Copy Components? - Are things the same in Netbackup 7.5? Please share if you have more information regarding the combination of VM, GPT partitions and GRT (Granular Recovery Technology). Thank you, RLeonSolved2.1KViews0likes5CommentsPolicies with SharePoint Policy Type fail with Error 196
First off, let me thank anyone in advance for any insight they may provide to this issue...so...Thank you! Let me give you a quick overview of the current configuration NetBackup server isa dedicated master server with an entire partition set aside for disk backups (as required by SharePoint Granular Backups). This 1.5 TB drive is dedicated for this purpose...I then have a Disk Staging policy setup to run each morning following the full backups (we have a few other servers that do granular full and incrementals that we also stage on the Master Server drive) which copy/duplicate the disk images to Tape (then expire once the disk gets about 65% full). We would then restore the Tape back to Disk if we need to do any error recovery. Currently, the SharePoint servers do weekly full and monthly full backups to this drive. The setup is something like this: Servername: servernameapp01 Within Host Properties -> Master Server -> SharePoint, there are about 7 servers that fall under this server "servernameapp01". There is one policy that runs "SharePoint_Farm_Backup" which kicks off full backups for each of the servers listed under the Host Properties field for the Master Server "SharePoint" policy settings area. As these kick off, all goes wellfor about 5 minutes (little green people running at full sprint, etc.)...one server after another begins to return an "Error 196", the backup window closed prior to the job completing. Now, this occurs only on SCHEDULED backups, NOT manual. I have attempted adjusting the backup window to cover 24/7, 12 hours, 1 hour, 13.5 hours, 27 minutes, 16minutes, whatever. The case is the same...anywhere from 5 - 10 minutes the individual jobs start to fail for each server under the SharePoint Policy Type. (MS-Sharepoint) and then state thewindow closed even though the window should beopen for another 6 hours. I have attempted to utilize multiplexing, increase the max jobs to 20, allowed for multiple data streams, etc., used the command prompt to manually set the schedule for the policy (bppschedrep) but nothing has fixed this issue with scheduling. Again, this only affects the SharePoint policy type and its servers. The Backup Selection is "Microsoft SharePoint Resources:/AllWeb" Here is a summarized output from a failed server: begin: parent job begin: SharePoint Resolver Start Process - SharePoint Resolve End Process - SharePoint Resolver end: SharePoint Granular Resolver, start notify script begin: SharePoint Granular Resolver, Step By Condition Status 0 end: SharePoint Granular Resolver, Step By Condition begin: SharePoint Granular Resolver, Read File List end: SharePoint Granular Resolver, Read File List begin: SharePoint Granular Resolver, Resolver Discovery end: SharePoint Granular Resolver, Resolver, Discovery begin: POlicy Execution Manage, PreProcess begin: SharePoint Granular Resolver, Stop on Error end: SharePoint Granular Resolver, Stop on Error begin: SharePoint Granular Resolver, Stop on Error end: SharePoint Granular Resolver, Stop on Error Client backup was not attempted because backup window closed Now, the problem I have is that there isn't anything in the log that shows it ran into a problem. Now I am THINKING that the overall SharePoint server (servernameapp01) policy finished backup prior to the Farm backing up, resulting in the fail, but I am not sure. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. If you need anymore information, I will be glad to submit it! Thanks again!2KViews0likes8CommentsSharePoint 2010 restore fails - 0xe0001602 Access is denied
Hi, We are currently testing our Backup Exec 2010 R3 backups of our SharePoint 2010 installation. Backup Exec and it's agents have all been patched to the latest level including hotfixes. We tried making a backup of a site onto tape. Then deleted the site and tried restoring it again. We end up with the following errors, which we cannot find any information on (also nothing in the Windows Event Viewer or in the SharePoint logs): The Job Information, Job Operation - Restore, Set Information, Restore Set Information shows the error: V-79-57344-65300 - The Sharepoint resource is not responding. Backup set canceled. This is strange, because the SharePoint server responds just fine (it ran a backup just a few minutes earlier). Further down in the Job Log, at the Job Completion Status,it says: Job ended: 8. december 2011 at 14:31:25 Completed status: Failed Final error: 0xe0001602 - Access is denied (Share point backup). Final error category: Security Errors For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-5634 And under Errors: Click an error below to locate it in the job log Restore V-79-57344-65300 - The Sharepoint resource is not responding. Backup set canceled. Can anyone help us getting this running? Best regards, Jan.1.9KViews0likes16CommentsBackupExec 2010 R2 and Sharepoint 2010 Foundation: Infopath Error?!?
Hi all, I'm facing with BackupExec 2010 R2 and Sharepoint 2010 Foundation. I was able to install the remote agent and backup the hard disk of the Sharepoint Server. I'm not able to view the Sharepoint Farm in the selection list view. Triyng the refresh action the interface become very slow like the agent was trying to understand the type of farm. Immediately after this, in the event log of the Sharepoint Server i found This Event: Log Name: Application Source: BkupExec: Backup Exec for \ Logged: 13/09/2010 15:18:06 Event ID:0 Task Category: None Could not load file or assembly ‘Microsoft.OfficeinfoPath,Server, Version=14.0.0,0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c’ or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. It seems that the "SPSwarpperV4" is trying to find some Infopath components. Infopath is not present in the server. Any idea? Thanks, Marco1.9KViews0likes9CommentsNetbackup and 3PAR
I'm looking to use NBU 7.5 to handle our VM backups in our infrastructure which uses 3PAR F400 for storage. I've checked the compat lists and it looks like some elements are compatible but some are not. Can anyone offer advice on this if they are either currently using this setup or have came across this before? The infrastructure is all W2K200x and we would be looking to do integrated backups of Exchange and Sharepoint as well as the usual file data. Thanks.Solved1.8KViews0likes5Comments
