Backup Exec 2012 Nirvanix replacement
I have a client that recently spent quite a bit of money in Backup Exec licensing and hardwarewith the intent to do short term data storage to a local Exagrid while offloading long term storage to Symantec's cloud vendor Nirvanix. This licensing was purchased at the beginning of September. We havemigrated backups over to the new hardware with short term backups to Exagrids, however Nirvanix has apparentlysince went out of business. The little i can find on symantec's forums is that Symantec is "looking into other options" however this is going back to early October. Has Symantec found a solution for this going forward? My client just invested well over 100k in software, hardware, and consulting to get this new backup system implemented and us not having an option for them cannot be the answer.1.1KViews1like6CommentsBackup Exec 12 Jobs Hanging
Is there a way to keep Backup Exec 12 backup jobs from hanging active when there is no tape inserted? Background: One of my clients is using Backup Exec 12 to do nightly backups to tape. They have a single tape drive located internally to the server that they rotate tapes in nightly. I have setup two scheduled jobs, one to inventory the tape, set to run a couple hours before the start of the backup job, and the backup job is set to run then eject the tape when finished. My problem is sometimes the client does not insert a new tape. When this happens, the next job that is scheduled to run starts eventhough there isn't a tape installed. Then that job hangs showing active. Sometimes the next day when they insert a tape it will start the backup but most of the time it requires me to manually cancel the job to get them back on track. Any suggestions how I can work around this? Thanks, Brian501Views0likes2CommentsIs there any option to hide some jobs from the list in Job History
Hi, I'd like to hide failed job after I check cause of the failure in the job log. I'd like to see in Job History all Successful jobs and only failed jobs for which I don't check job log yet. Is it possible in Be 2012? regards, Przemek726Views0likes6CommentsUser Account vs Service Account
Is it possibly to setup Backup Exec with a service account and not a user account? we currently use a user account that allows us to log into the backup servers. Backup Exec is using this account for running its services. we utilize Backup Exec 2010 R3 and Backup Exec 2012.496Views0likes2CommentsCannot to connect BackupExec to Data Domain with OST Plug-In
Trying to connect via creation of a disk device. When clicking "Add OpenStorage" device in Backup Exec disk devices (Backup Exec 2010 R3 SP2), I am able to get to the point as follows in the attachment. I can get all fields to work, it sees it as a "Data Domain" in the selection box, but on the LSU, it doesn't populate. Login credentials are definitely right. The OST 2.5 plugin for datadomain is installed on the media server. If I manually type in LSU1, or any free text in the Logical Storage Unit field, it doesn't make any difference. The error that I get when I click OK says: "Cannot connect to the NDMP server, or to the remote computer that is configured as a Remote Media Agent, or to the remote computer that is configured for deduplication" I do not have the DD Boost license enabled, I have one MTree. I was told and confirmed that I do not need the DD Boost option to create an OST device against a straight data domain. I am on 5.0.1 OS on the DD 580.3.6KViews1like8Commentsrestore from tape that used BE 11d with BE 2010
I have to restore a file that was backed up using BE 11d. I have just upgraded to BE 2010 on a Win 2003 R2. I tried to upgrade to 2012 but that failed misserably. So I had to completely un-install and clean up things and then down graded and went to 2010 instead. Now I have the old 11d tapes but they are not in the inventory. How do I get them into inventory so I can restore a file. Thanks Joel475Views0likes2CommentsBackup Exec 2010 - EV Agent - Error Connecting to Database
Hello, I am running Backup Exec 2010R2 with the Enterprise Vault Agent license installed. I have an Enterprise Vault 10.0.2.1112 system, single server, all roles installed and the SQL databases are on a separate server running SQL Server 2008. When I create a new backup selection list, I am able to browse the EV Site (vault stores and index locations) without a problem, however, when I try to select the Directory DB and the Monitoring DB, I get an error that says "An error was encountered while attempting to browse the contents of Directory DB (server/EnterpriseVaultDirectory). The device cannot be found." I know the database is up and everything is running fine. I found an article that mentions a bug in BE 12.0, but that has been resolved and I am NOT running BE 12. I am unable to find any articles on this topic and I am unable to find an EV backup agent walkthrough to clue me in on any configuration mistakes for the SQL databases. Can anyone help? We have small business server running backup exec 2010 R3 and we're trying to do a restore a QNAP NAS device ( We backup to an Ultrium tape drive ). I can set the target to the qnap\share but when i run the job it failes with: Final error: 0xe000848c - Unable to attach to a resource. Make sure that all selected resources exist and are online, and then try again. If the server or resource no longer exists, remove it from the selection list. Edit the selection list properties, click the View Selection Details tab, and then remove the resource. Final error category: Resource Errors Basically im just trying to move approx 250GB data to the NAS and thought running restore to it would be the easiest way but it seems not. Any help or guidance is appreciated. ThanksSolved2.2KViews0likes3CommentsAgent Trust & Cluster issues
I'm using Backup Exec 2010 R3, SP2. One of the computer I'm backing up is a Windows 2008 file server cluster, consisting of 2 nodes. I installed the agent on bath cluster nodes. I setup the agent's trust on both nodes. The cluter resource I'm backing up has it's own IP, and points to either of the nodes, depending on which hardware node owns the resource.Note that I'm using Windows File Server resources, not a VM or any hosted OS.Standard Windows file clustering stuff. Well, the backups only work when the file server resource is on the first node. When we fail over the file server resource to the 2nd node, BackupExec start complaining that the trust relationship has not been setup. We fail back to the first node, and backups work again. It seems that since this whole agent trust security was implemented, BE can't handle file server clusters. Anyone have a fix or workaround?521Views0likes4CommentsBE2012 : deduplication and OST not proposed on install
Hi all, While testing BE2012 installation vs BE1020 R3, I can't find the checkbox options I had for OST - open Storage, nor for deduplication. I may understand that deduplciation could be included the BE2012 code .. why not ... but the OST is not presented here. I relaunched the setup after I installed BE2012, and the fsost plugin (FalconStor), but there are no additional checkbox from the installation menu :( Thx all788Views0likes5Comments
