Netbackup Tape writing behaviour
Hello All, I have a question about tape retention. The question may be stupid and /i think i know the answer, but I am not sure. In a situation where netbackup is writing a frontend(client to tape) or SLP driven deduplication backup (disk to tape).. and for some reason the backup fails. What happens to the data that has already been written on the tape? Is it retained as per the policy schedule retention that is defined or is it discarded? Also what happens to such a tape where the backup that was writing to it failed before it could complete? Is there a way of identifying such tapes? Maybe erasing them and putting them i nthe scratch pool? Any help is fully appreciated. Kind Regards, Jay1.8KViews0likes7CommentsReplicated image retention
I have now setup images to be replicated from one master server to another using A.I.R. My question is about setting the retention level on the image. On the source master I have a retention level of 1 week on the backup and replicated that out with a retention level of 1 week. Can I import that image into the target server with a retention of 1 week on disk and duplicate out to tape and have a different retention level(2 years)? The issue is that I want to backup this image but not keep it on disk and retain it on tape for 2 years, is this possible or does the original backup have to be 2 years? A year from now would I be able to restore the image?Solved1KViews0likes4Commentsfailed to change retention of backup image using bpexpdate

Hello Everyone, My apologies if this question / situation has been posted before. I have looked everywhere, but I am unable to find the post. Issue (RedHat Linux Environment / Netbackup 7.6): I have a policy with 2 hosts (server A and B). - Policy is daily imcrementals with full weekend backup - client B will be decommissioned in a few days - Need to keep the last full backup for 1 year - physical host will be re-purpose for something else Here is what I am planning to do to accomplish above request: - increase retention period to 1 year on last full backup image for "client B" using (bpexpdate) command - stop netbackup on "client B" - remove hostname "client B" from policy X My questions are: - Am I missing anything else - Is it OK to remove hostname "client B" from the policy - How do I restore data using the last backup image, if necesary, now that the physical server is gone Is there anything I am doing wrong where the image backup will become useless? Thank you in advance for any guidance. EdSolved1.2KViews0likes3Comments
