NBU v10 retention
Hi folks, What is the right way to set the retention in NBU 10 ? Policy Schedules or SLPs ? It is a bit confusing, what's the point of having both two ? If I set a specific retention in a Policy Schedule and then assign the ''Policy storage'' to my SLP. Which one is taken into consideration ? Kind regards.Solved67Views0likes4CommentsNetbackup Tape writing behaviour
Hello All, I have a question about tape retention. The question may be stupid and /i think i know the answer, but I am not sure. In a situation where netbackup is writing a frontend(client to tape) or SLP driven deduplication backup (disk to tape).. and for some reason the backup fails. What happens to the data that has already been written on the tape? Is it retained as per the policy schedule retention that is defined or is it discarded? Also what happens to such a tape where the backup that was writing to it failed before it could complete? Is there a way of identifying such tapes? Maybe erasing them and putting them i nthe scratch pool? Any help is fully appreciated. Kind Regards, Jay1.8KViews0likes7CommentsReplicated image retention
I have now setup images to be replicated from one master server to another using A.I.R. My question is about setting the retention level on the image. On the source master I have a retention level of 1 week on the backup and replicated that out with a retention level of 1 week. Can I import that image into the target server with a retention of 1 week on disk and duplicate out to tape and have a different retention level(2 years)? The issue is that I want to backup this image but not keep it on disk and retain it on tape for 2 years, is this possible or does the original backup have to be 2 years? A year from now would I be able to restore the image?Solved1KViews0likes4CommentsSimple Tape rotation question
I just took over the Backup Exec environment and had a simple question about tapes and rotating them through the system. We do a monthly backup and those tapes are kept for 2 years per our retention rules. So I have older tapes that are cycling out of the retention period that I would like to reuse. For the backups we use a Monthly backup media set. What would be the best operation for reusing these tapes in the monthly backup media set?871Views0likes3Commentsfailed to change retention of backup image using bpexpdate

Hello Everyone, My apologies if this question / situation has been posted before. I have looked everywhere, but I am unable to find the post. Issue (RedHat Linux Environment / Netbackup 7.6): I have a policy with 2 hosts (server A and B). - Policy is daily imcrementals with full weekend backup - client B will be decommissioned in a few days - Need to keep the last full backup for 1 year - physical host will be re-purpose for something else Here is what I am planning to do to accomplish above request: - increase retention period to 1 year on last full backup image for "client B" using (bpexpdate) command - stop netbackup on "client B" - remove hostname "client B" from policy X My questions are: - Am I missing anything else - Is it OK to remove hostname "client B" from the policy - How do I restore data using the last backup image, if necesary, now that the physical server is gone Is there anything I am doing wrong where the image backup will become useless? Thank you in advance for any guidance. EdSolved1.2KViews0likes3CommentsWhat is the retention period for Annual backup
Dear Support, What is the retention period I need to set for my Yearly backup to Tape. (Media set propeties please see the screenshot attached). Retention perid/ overwrite protection period / Append period. Please note this a one time backup only. Backup to Tape drive (LTO6) The purpose of this backup is to keep every year a copy of that year's backup in a seperate LTO Tape. (This is not going to overwrite). This is only for future use in case management needed any files from previous years. I need a proper retention policy to keep for these kind of backups. Thank you.1.2KViews0likes2CommentsAn “American Style” eDiscovery Trap
The eDiscovery frenzy that has gripped the American legal system over the past decade has largely eluded our European counterparts. This is due in large part to the broad and fastidious protections of European privacy laws. Another reason is found in Europe’s narrower discovery rules, which forbid categorical document requests authorized by the Federal Rules of Civil ProcedureHow to delete archives stored on Centera with 10 years of retention
We are moving archives away from Centera to a new storage device, as we are going to decommission the Centera device. While I was moving archives and deleting the old ones when finished, I noticed that the archives are stuck in deletion. I figured out that the Centera retention class for those archives was set to 10 years. Hence the messages popping up in dtrace: 262á760 13:26:46.054 [49á556] (StorageDelete) <26512> EV:M CVaultStoreEMCCentera::ClipGetExpiryDateCenteraCollection -- Clip-Id: 88PRQ8LUUIQ3JeCOEQR9F1D17IVG418H8CEQUQ0A9VTB8H166IT1G, Expiry date: 0.000000 262á764 13:26:46.054 [49á556] (StorageDelete) <26512> EV:M CVaultStoreEMCCentera::ClipGetExpiryDate -- Clip-Id: 88PRQ8LUUIQ3JeCOEQR9F1D17IVG418H8CEQUQ0A9VTB8H166IT1G, Expiry date: 45340.812847 262á786 13:26:46.054 [49á556] (StorageDelete) <26512> EV:M The deletion of the item is not currently permitted. The item is on a compliance device with a retention period that prevents it from being deleted. Are there any way of removing the old archives from EV before the Expiry date? I am not concerned about the data on Centera once all moves are completed. I just want to remove any references to the old archives and items once we have moved everything away from Centera. How do I calculate the Expiry date in dtrace? When trying to delete about 18TB of data in retention, will that bog down the EV server as it tries to delete the items over and over again? Thanks!Solved3.3KViews0likes13Comments
