Restore not working
Hello, I have a backup stored on disk of a WinServer 2019 VM that I am trying to restore; however, when i alter the VMs current state (ex add a new program, add a file, etc) and then restore to the backup point - the new "changes" i made are not wiped away. Even though the restore shows successful, I dont believe that it is if my current VM state (files, programs, etc) arent restore to what they were at the time of the backup. Ive tried overwriting and restoring files/volumes both from Files, folders or volumes as well as Complete online restore options, but have not seen what I want to see. Any ideas?525Views0likes2Comments'Auto Saved' files unrecoverable?
Hey All, I ran into an issue with a customer and came to the conclusion that NetBackup just will not recover "auto saved" files and those that were open. However, customer is asking if it backed up, it should be recoverable, which is a valid point. I could not find documentation to prove this and am hopping on here to see whether or not you can validate. Here is why: customer came with an exit status 185, error log attached. Backups past 7 days are not recoverable. we changed net buffer size and created a touch file for restore size to smaller blocks from the linux media to the win client we addedCLIENT_NAME = <master FQDN> in the master bp.conf validated the backup in catalog after above steps, we restored the requested files and they failed with the same status. However, we were able to restore a spreadsheet from 2-weeks prior and verified it was from the same backup image of the two files. Both files mentioned had "(Auto Saved)" in the file name and backed up a sister file with a '~' as a prefix. The fact we ran a file level restore from the same image and same directory, proved nothing was wrong with the backup. But am I correct in thinking these files are just pointer records and it's the admins' duty to exclude them from backup?1.2KViews0likes4CommentsBackup Exec Server and best CPU
Looking to replace our current server that Backup Exec is running on. Unable to find any documentation regarding the server is mutlthreaded and takes advantage of muticore processors (physical and/or virtual). Can anybody tell me if I should purchase fastest CPU with low core count or slower CPU with higher core count? Isthe defaultdatabase that comes with the BE server have memory/processor limitations? Anybody recommend VM for running the BE server? Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated.1.2KViews0likes2Comments0xe0009582-Cannot get the disk changed information
Hello, I'm running BUE 16 and attempting to back up a Server 2016 VM (vSphere 6.0 U3) and it always fails with0xe0009582-Cannot get the disk changed information. I have two other 2016 VMs that are backing up fine. The only difference with this one is that it has an independent disk attached, which, if memory servers are automatically excluded during backup. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the agent, insured the VSS provider is not installed in VMware tools, and tried several jobs with instant GRT, VM GRT, and Advanced Open File option enabled and disabled. Nothing has worked so far. Any ideas?2.8KViews0likes1CommentNeed help on how to script an "alternate location" backup for a specific server (VM) weekly
Hello, this is my first post, I do browse the forums everyweek though. ;) Here's my problem, I do this very manual "restore" to an alternate location for a server that needs a second backup copy every single week, (with different host (VM), different display name, etc). I was wondering if it was possible to script/schedule this sort of backup to happen weekly. Right now it is very time consuming and laborous to do this every week and was wondering if any shortcuts were available. Let me know if its possible to script something like that! Hello, We have encrypted our VM thru the VM encryption module provided by VMWare since 6.5 version. As it is not supported by BE 16, we are doing now file level backup. Is there some news regarding an update of BE 16 that will allow block level backup with encrypted VM ?1.3KViews0likes1CommentSAN Mode Transport
Hi All, I am planning to setup SAN transport mode to backup the VM servers and shared folders on my SAN Storage directly to tape thru fiber channel. Here is my current environment: The ESXi Host is connected to the SAN Switch and the LAN Switch. The SAN Storage is connected to the SAN switch. Here is my plan: The Backup Exec Server (physical) will be connected to the SAN switch and LAN switch. The FC tape Library will be connected to the SAN switch. 1. Can someone confirm if my setup is correct? 2. If I need to backup other physical Windows server, how the data pass thru? Physcial server > LAN Switch> Backup Exec Server>SAN Switch> tape library ? Please see the attached diagram. Thanks!Solved1.7KViews0likes3CommentsHow to Back up Linux VMs on Hyper-V
Backing up VMs through Hyper-V is using either VSS or WMI, and neither is working for Linux VMs. So, it seems to turn out there is no way to back up Linux VMs over Hyper-V. However, on the NetBackup Hyper-V backup document, it talks about backing up Linux VMs in saved mode or non-consistant way. I don't know why it could work at all. No matter what kind option I choose when creating a policy for backing up Linux VM, it always gets snapshot Error 156 which is very normal. Why does not Veritas simply claim that it is imporssbile to back up Linux VMs over Hyper-V? Anyway, what's the best practice to back up Linux VMs on Hyper-V? Hi, In our environment VM backups are running based on VIP query rule and the Vcenter has been added as a Virtual Machine server in the credentials tab in NBU set-up (ESX credentials were not added) Note: VCenterserver is a VM (Virtual Machine) So, if my VCenter server gets crashed - if i want to restore that VCenter server from (VC)VM backup, then how could i do it? My VC is down, is it possible to restore the VM without VC? I searched in Symantec sites - it seems there is a possibility of restoring the VM directly to ESX without VC., can you please tell me what are the steps to do that restore directly to ESX?Solved3.7KViews1like3Comments
