Veritas Backup Exec version upgrade & migrate to another new Server
Hello, We need to upgrade our Veritas Backup Exec version from 16 to latest compitable version as per hardware support in existing Server having OS is Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard, then need to migrate the same to new Server hardware with Windows Server 2022 Standard. I'm having an issue with a work server where the Services for one client stopped. It would perform differential backups just fine, but when it came time to do Full backups, instead of the normal 8-10 hours it would take over a day and then time out of the job. I did a restart on the client, thinking that it had been over 2 months since the last reboot, and host server and since then it says it can not pull the necessary information from the registry to start the Automatic tasks its set to. So now it will not even perform the differentials that it was fine doing before the reboot. I've been trying to restart the services for this client, but so far I have not gotten any where. Can anyone help suggest anything? Also, last year in March I had a similar issue, and fortunately I was able to exit out of the agent and when I opened it again it had pulled the necessary information it needed. So I've moved my tapes from my management BE server to the CAS server for a restore off site. I insert the tapes .. scan / inventory. Right click and look at details of the tape and all looks good .. data is was what was backed up at other location and now show in tape library 2 (CAS tape library) all is great... Now when I go run the restore it fails with: Completed status: Failed Final error: 0xe0000f29 - This Backup Exec server cannot access the device selected in the settings for the job. Refer to the job log for details The media required by this job is located on device 'Robotic library 5'. Select device 'Robotic library 5' in the job settings. Well I am doing this... this is the CAS tape library name and it even shows me in the details the tape is located in Library 2. I'm stumped. I've rebooted / stop/start a;; services each location .. made sure I can get to each BE server from each other. Is it my catalogs? can I restart them from scratch? Good afternoon, I'm e-mailing because at work we experienced a phenomenon of the Backup Exec suddenly not working on Wednesday night. This is on the heels of the Backup Exec working just fine the night before with a successful manual and scheduled Differential Backup. The error code we receive is E0000942A. We logged into the server to and at the bottom where the icon for the Backup Utility appears it says "The Backup Exec Client service, BEREMOTE.EXE is not running on this computer." We open Services and see that the "Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows" is set to automatic, however the status is blank. When we double click and try to start the service manually it errors out just says Starting. We have to issue the command in CMD to stop it from trying so that it does not remain hung up. Also, in the Backup Exec Agent Utility if we try to select Publishing, a box pops up and says "Cannot obtain settings for the Agent for Windows publishing from the registry." We click "Ok" and it opens to the Publishing windows except all the information that was entered in previously is gone. I'm having a quirky issue that has been around since BE16. I made two reports to track daily and weekly backups, and for awhile they worked fine, then they just disappeared from the upcoming list. But....they didn't really disappear. I just can't see them, they still run, but they generate failure errors. "The job failed with the following error: The Backup Exec job engine system service is not responding." The report however does get created, attached to an email and sent. Now here's where it gets odd. So my reports vanished, I recreated them (slightly different report name). Again, they worked okay, then those disappeared too. Now I'm getting twice as many reports, and twice as many failure notices in my email about them.I can't edit them or delete them because both sets have vanished from the upcoming list. We recently upgraded Veritas BackupExec to version 22.0 1193.1009. Also we upgraded agents on Windows Server 2008 R2 to version22.0 1193.1009. On our old BackupExec Server, which is was 20.3 1188.1865 there were never any problems with backing up Windows Server 2008 R2 file clusters, but new version of BackupExec do not see cluster disks on Windows Server 2008 R2. We tried to add file cluster as separate computer and we tried to add each node of file cluster. There result is the same. BackupExec only see drive C and no cluster driver. Is it a change? Does BackupExec22.0 1193.1009 no longer supports Windows Server 2008 R2 file clusters?Solved958Views0likes1Comment
