NetBackup - what licenses do i need?
Hi. I'm newbie in Veritas, and it seems difficult to understand without any guidance and answers licensing. Need help to calculate necessary licenses to backup environment and compare TCO with Veeam proposal. Long story short: We do have 48 HP blades with approx. 300 Vm's, Alletra Storage with 675 TB formatted space to be backedup, have HP StoreOnce for daily needs backups. We might configure dedicated 1RU servers for backup needs, but how many should be? What would be backup architecture? what license do we need?678Views0likes3CommentsNetwork Storage Location is Read only and is not a valid destination
We are running System Recovery 21 and attempting to migrate our backups from the cloud to an on premise storage server appliance. I have done this for 11 other systems without an issue, 2 weeks ago. Today, I have tried on multiple systems and I get the following error every time. This error happens after entering the network credentials and licking "Next" in the Backup Wizard: -Error E1AD4191: \\*server name*\*system name*\ is a read-only location and is not a valid destination. --Error E7D1001D: Unable to open '//*server name*/*system name*/Destination_Location_Test_File'. Error EBAB03F1: Following Operating System error occurred while performing requested operation: 'Access is denied.' Error E7D10049: Device *system name* appears to be offline, disconnected, or otherwise unavailable. Things I have tried to no avail: Verified target folder permissions and sharing settings Created a new folder on the server and pointed to that (same error) Restarted the backup appliance server Used a different account to authenticate in the Backup Wizard Restarted the PC I am trying to backup Ran Veritas as admin in different ways Tried this same process on other PC's that also need their backup destination changed Entered the server IP as the target instead of the name Verified I can access the storage location via file explorer and can create files within the target backup location Can ping the backup appliance by name and IP995Views0likes1CommentHow to backup/restore SysVol on a domain controller w Netbackup
How can we backup and restore from the locationC:\Windows\SYSVOL on our domain controllers? In the backup policy we have it set to do a full backup and if you browse the directory structure it shows all the contents of this folder. However, when you try to run a restore from the server it shows this folder as being empty. We have the Netbackup Client Service running on those servers as a local domain admin account. Those servers also have "Netbackup Legacy Client Service" (not sure what the difference is) which is also running with a local domain admin account. I have also tried enabling Granular Recovery and Cross mount points on the backup policy, but still having the same issue. Our Netbackup admin console is ver 8.1.23KViews0likes4CommentsImproving Backup Performance
Hi all, I'm currently trying to improve the backup speed performance. I was looking at the backup job's logs, and the bptm process is is waiting thousands of times more than the bpbkar process. Does this mean that the bottleneck is on the client side, and does anyone have any ideas as to how to improve performance if this is the case?708Views0likes1CommentNetBackup 7.5 Catalog Backup FAILED on host <hostname> status 2
Hello, Hope someone can assist me with this issue I am having: Receiving the following error: ============================= Server <Master_Netbackup_Server_Name> Date Fri 09 Oct 2020 10:15:22 AM UTC Policy Catalog-BKP Catalog Backup Status 2 - none of the requested files were backed up You are strongly urged to correct this problem as soon as possible. A successful catalog backup is required to protect your data. ============================================= I have read a number of blogs and suggesstions regarding how to get this done by backing up, deleting an re-creacting the database. But, due to the sensitive nature of this production environment I've decided to come here and ask for some good advice. - Master server and media servers are RHEL 6.6 - There is plenty of space in the master server to backup the catalog (70G of space) - I want to run the catalog backup to the master server local storage to take advantage of local fast hdd drive and overall speed - then I can move to resulting file /directorie(s) to another location for safekeeping - Would appreciate if someone could tell me what are the directories that I must target to generate a tarball so I can transfer to another server - backups are completing without any issue (all backups go to a DSU / no tapes) - I have to make sure that I have a successful and full catalog backup before I stop and delete some policies and hosts as they are no longer needed So, - Is there a simple way to address this catalog issue? If so, could someone please provide the steps and/or document with the steps to fix this error. - Could I get away by simply running the "Configure the Catalog Backup" again and creating a new catalog backup file (must include the same info as the existing backup catalog) and run it? Again, apologies for the ask, but this is production and I do not want to do anything to the catalog that would prevent me from restoring it in case of an emergency. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Ed2.1KViews0likes6Comments1 legacy server remova from policyl - Need To Keep Last Full Backup Data For 1 Year (DSU)
Hello Everyone, My apologies if this question / situation has been posted before. I have looked everywhere, but I am unable to find the post. Issue (RedHat Linux Environment / Netbackup 7.6): I have a policy with 2 hosts (server A and B). - Policy is daily imcrementals with full weekend backup - client B will be decommissioned in a few days - Need to keep the last full backup for 1 year - physical host will be re-purpose for something else Here is what I am planning to do to accomplish above request: - increase retention period to 1 year on last full backup image for "client B" using (bpexpdate) command - stop netbackup on "client B" - remove hostname "client B" from policy X My questions are: - Am I missing anything else - Is it OK to remove hostname "client B" from the policy - How do I restore data using the last backup image, if necesary, now that the physical server is gone Is there anything I am doing wrong where the image backup will become useless? Thank you in advance for any guidance. EdSolved1.2KViews0likes3Commentsbackupexecmanagementservice.exe consumes all available RAM
I have a recent problem starting to occur on Backup Exec 2016. The Backupexec Management Service starts consuming all the RAM, then it fills the pagefile.sys which consumes all capacity on my C drive. The service normally runs at@100k RAM, but when this apparent memory leak occurs, it consumes all 24GB RAM, plus all my pagefile. Has anyone else experienced this error and what was the fix please? Any help much appeciated!Solved3KViews0likes6CommentsSlow backup to tape
Hi, We're having some trouble backing up virtual and physical servers to tape. We're not getting the speed it should get and it takes up a lot of time to back up the environment. 2,63TB of data takes up more than 24 hours. Information about job, tape & tape drive: Tape type:HPE LTO Ultrium 6 6,25TB MP RW Tape Drive: MSL 2024 Compression: Hardware Encryption: None Verify: Yes These backups are going through the internal network within the domain. The average backup speed is 4,300MB/m (which is way to slow) When we backup locally on the backup server (for example the D:\ drive where the incremental disk backups are saved on the backup server) it gets to a speed of 10500MB/m. Which is understandable considering it's a straight connection to the tape drive. What did we do to try and resolve it: * Checked the compression * Checked encryption * Replaced tapes for new tapes * Resetted the tape drive * Updated Tapedrive firmware * Checked out the network for inconsistencies (not found), file transfers via other apps around 126mbs from server to server) * Job from VM on hyper-visor to tape (around 2,900 MB/m) * Local disk to tape (between 10500MB/M and 13500MB/M) * VM to disk on the backup server (Around 6200MB/M) Help would be appreciated.1.8KViews0likes2CommentsDuplicate Jobs
Hi, I have a question that might not be easy to explain but I'll give it a try. I have some tapes from specific media sets that are shortly used because the backups spreaded amongst them and I would like to free some of those tapes by creating duplicate jobs that would concentrate the backup sets on only a few tapes. My question is, if I duplicate a media set that is spreaded across two tapes into another one, will it copy only the backup set I chose from a specific tape or will it copy the begining of that backup set that was written in another tape too? Because if that happens, I'll end up having duplicate data and I don't want that, I just want to free som tapes that have little data written on them, like the end of a backup set, so I can use them on other media sets I have for new backups. Hope I made myself clear. Thanks!Solved2.7KViews0likes6Comments
