Using Media Vault for Tape Management
We have several backup jobs that run just on the weekend that capture full vmWare guest servers. We run these to a Media Set that has two tapes. Recently we've ran into an issue where the first tape is almost full when another job kicks off and appends to it. Well, the data from that job is too much to fit onto that first tape, so it reaches the end of the job then just sits there prompting to import blank or scratch media. Well, we have a second tape available as part of the media set, but since it has other jobs on it, the job that is "hung" cannot append itself to another tape (read that this is by design). So I was thinking of using a Media Vault to export the first tape to after the 2nd to last job runs so that the final job doesn't get hung up after filling the rest of tape 1, instead, if tape 1 is exported to the media vault prior to the final job running, then tape 2 should be the only media available and it has plenty of space for the final job to write to. Can the Media Vault be used in this scenario? When tape media is exported to it at the end of the job, the media isn't available again until an inventory is ran against the slot, correct?872Views0likes1CommentUse BEMCLI to duplicate backup sets to new drive
My old disk storage is dying and I acquired a new disk storage and added it to Backup Exec. I am trying to copy the backup sets from the old storage to the new storage, but given the number of files, this is tedious. How do I use BEMCLI to do this?1.3KViews0likes4CommentsBE16: Duplicate, identical media-id on different tapes
Hi, for one backup server I recognized, that there are several tapes, that have an identical Media-ID (German: Medien-ID). Reading up the manuals I can only find statements telling, that it's impossible to modify the Media-ID. The result of this situation is, that these at least three groups of 2 or 3 tapes are the exactly same tape from the point of view of BE16, even though they are physically different tapes. here: Tape "January" and "February" are one "pair-of-identical-IDs", so are "March" and "April", and "June", "July" and "August". Q1: How is ist possible, that this happens at all? Q2: Howto fix the wrong (identical) Media? Q2a: Or if this is not possible with BE16, can I "low level format" with some tool running on Windows 2016 Server Standard, to get rid of these wrong, identical media IDs? Hi, I have a question that might not be easy to explain but I'll give it a try. I have some tapes from specific media sets that are shortly used because the backups spreaded amongst them and I would like to free some of those tapes by creating duplicate jobs that would concentrate the backup sets on only a few tapes. My question is, if I duplicate a media set that is spreaded across two tapes into another one, will it copy only the backup set I chose from a specific tape or will it copy the begining of that backup set that was written in another tape too? Because if that happens, I'll end up having duplicate data and I don't want that, I just want to free som tapes that have little data written on them, like the end of a backup set, so I can use them on other media sets I have for new backups. Hope I made myself clear. Thanks!Solved2.7KViews0likes6CommentsBackup Exec 14 copy to copy tape
Hi, We usually have two tapes, which have the same backup as an archive. One that's kept local, and one that's sent away for archiving. Unfortunately, our local one was wiped (didn't have the write-protection closed on the tape) Is there anyway that I can use the off-site backup to do a complete duplicate to another tape, so we have two copies again? I couldn't see a way. I have multiple tape libraries available. Any help appreciated. ThanksSolved1.5KViews0likes4Comments
