Windows 10? New software update for Symantec System Recovery 2013 Desktop Edition?
I am currently using Symantec System Recovery 2013 R2 with my Windows 8.1 based desktop PC. I am planning on upgrading to Windows 10 on July 29, 2015 when Windows 10 is released. I've been relying on Norton Ghost and SSR 2013 to do full system images for years. Is Symantec currently working on software for Symantec System Recovery 2013 so that it will be compatible with Windows 10? Will Symantec be offering a FREE update patch to Symantec System Recovery 2013 that will make it compatible with Windows 10? Will it be called Symantec System Recovery 2013 R3 or something else like Symantec System Recovery 2015? I would like to see SSR 2013 tested and certified as compatible with Windows 10 as soon as possible. I would prefer not to have switch to another vendor's system image backup software like Acronis. Their website is saying that you can get a free software update for Windows 10 compatibility for Acronis True Image 2015.34KViews12likes385CommentsError bptm(pid=5832) error requesting media, TpErrno = Robot operation failed
Hi, I have been having big problem with one of our Media Servers. We had an un-related problem with the OS, and had to rebuild the server. I've finally got our backups working again, but am unable to Vault images to tape. Robtest is able to successfully move tapes from slots to drives and visa versa, but no images are mounted to tape. Our backup procedure is as follows: Backup to Disk > Vault to ON site and OFF site copies > Set ON site copy to primary and delete the disk backup on Image Cleanup. Here is the full Vault job status report: 20/12/2013 20:06:46 - begin Duplicate 20/12/2013 20:07:13 - requesting resource backup4-dlt2-robot-tld-2 20/12/2013 20:07:13 - requesting resource backup4-dlt2-robot-tld-2 20/12/2013 20:07:13 - Just wanted to update NetBackup users about a open source tool that I have been using to successfully do bare metal Linux restores using our Netbackup. We use netbackup6.5 to backup our Linux and AIX servers. On our AIX servers we use a NIM server and we do network sysback backups on a weekly basis to provide the "Bare Metal" backup functionality. Unfortunately we had not Bare Metal restore functionality for Netbackup. I found a Open Source tool called "Relax and Recover" that provided a way to restore the OS using the full backups of the Linux systems on NetBackup. The tool as an option where it will create a bootable rescue iso file that contains all the Netbackup client executables and configuration to allow you to boot up your Linux server using the iso file then issue a simple command that will mount your OS disks separately and do a bprestore of all needed files to your actual OS disks. At the end of the restore the system re-create the GRUB information on the boot disk. The "mkerscue" is process can be ran any time with the Linux system is up and I just store that iso file on a separate server. The Netbackup code on the "Relax and Recover" was lacking some functionality that I wanted. Working with the developers they have accepted enhancements I made to the Netbackup (NBU) code. I added the functionality of excluding files and/or volume groups in the restore. I wanted this because I want to mainly use this to restore the OS only. I also added the functionality to restore from a point in time. They accepted the changes in SVN trunk 250. It will probably be in the next release of the product which should come out in one month's time. The web site for the product is: http://rear.sourceforge.net. They have a very useful program that has a very active supportive user base. The developers were very responsive and helpful to me to get the enhancements to the Netbackup interface in place. The program itself is just a big collection of bash shell scripts. This made adding the enhancements "doable' for a UNIX administrator such as myself. It is nice to be able to do a bare metal restoreto ourNetbackup backed up Linux servers without the need to do some type of clonzilla, "ghost" type backup which requires a system downtime..6.4KViews3likes17CommentsV-79-57344-38264 - Unable to copy the virtual machine disk using the VMware VixDiskLib.

Just downloaded SSR 2013 trial. (I was a Ghost 15 user, but upgraded to Windows 8 so can no longer use Ghost.) On my first attempt to do a backup of my drive, I got a VSS_E_INSUFFICIENT_STORAGE error. A bit of online research made me think I had to go to System Properties|System Protection and increase the amount of disk space available for system protection, which I did. I increased it from about 9GB to about 100GB. That did not help. FWIW, my hard drive is about 923GB, with about 760GB free. Any guidance? Many thanks. I'm trying to do something that is dead simple, but frustratingly it's killing me... One little thing, just trying to backup and restore Windows Server 2012 R2 on an Intel i7 PC that's in UEFI mode with GPT partitions on a SATA SSD drive. Symantec System Recovery 2013 SP2 x64 v11.0.2.49853 has no problem going through the paces of restoring the backup, but afterward Windows fails to boot. I even went to the extent of wiping the C drive (and all the partitions), reinstalled WS2012 R2 Data Center GUI (nothing else except a network driver and SSR), backed up freshly installed WS2012 R2 to an external USB drive using SSR installed inside Windows, wiped the C drive (and all the partitions) and restored the backup, but all that effort didn't matter. PC still won't boot Windows. I also tried restoring the 100MB EFI Partition first, followed by the operating system and Recovery partitions, still no help. The only odd thing I see is inside the WinPE SRD, About - Symantec System Recovery Disk shows versions that seem old even though it was just extracted from the latest v11.0.2.49853 download zip file (although the SRD .iso file date of 12/15/13 is older than the SSR SP2 11.0.2 update that supposedly fixed UEFI problems). Hey everybody, For some reason the Symantec website does not let me create a new support case (times out), therefor I'm hoping this forum might be of any help. I'm trying to install SSR2013 R2 for one of my clients (W8.1 Pro 64bit). When I run browser.exe or the SSRx64 setup.exe the installation starts with the message 'Loading the install. Hello, I am wondering what the best solution would be for the following: I have on Citrix Xen Server host that has 7 virtual machines on it. I am currently using PHD Virtual to back this up to a NAS. I am looking to move to different software for the backups. One of the virtual machines is running SQL and one is running AD and DNS. There is also one physical server that has AD, DNS, and DHCP on it that i would also like to back up in the same solution. What i was curious about is what is the best way to back all of this up? Is it Back Up Exec or System Restore? Or would neither work? I am looking for something that will back up to the existng NAS and allow for item level restores as well as fast restores of full VM's if ever needed. Second question is, assuming one of the two products will work is it best practice to install it on its own server or could it be installed on teh physical that is existing with AD, DNS and DHCP? I am assuming its own server and that is what i would shoot for, but for the sake of saving money i like to know my options. Thank you for your assistance.Solved3.5KViews0likes4Comments
