Backup Exec 16 FP2 Compression & Deduplication

I was wondering if anyone did testing or Veritas has a whitepaper. BE16fp2 allows to deduplicate the data before it is send to cloud storage. The question I have where does compression comes into play. I know BE supports compression. If the software compression box is also checked in this case will it be more effective along with deduplication before the data is send to cloud storage?

Or we should not worry about compression at all in this case..............

Any help will be appreciated and if someone has official document will be great.

    Hi

Larry is right. BE job will end with an exception.
Basically, you do not need to set compression at the job level, since be embedded deduplication already does compression. The compression mechanism is enabled through the pd.conf file. Look for COMPRESSION= in that file (0 = disabled and 1=disabled)

For pushing backup images to the cloud you should use opendedupe integration

  • I believe the job will complete with an exception warning that using compression can prevent much of the data from being deduplicated.
