Please clarify. Are you using BE 12 or 22? What is the OS of the BE Server? Are you using a tape drive or a tape library?

Sorry, that's a typo, it is BE 22. The OS that are currently using is win10. We are using a tape library (MSL3040)
with the aforementioned problem occurring with lto9 tape media.

Hmm. How did you managed to use Win 10 for the BE Server? This is not supported. A server class OS is required for BE Server.

We are using 2016.

Are you using tape labels? If so would recommend just doing a scan rather than an inventory each time.
Beyond that - as it sounds like you are using pre-initialized LTO9 tapes anyway, I would suggest collecting debug logs by running SGMon.exe and comparing the logs collected during the first inventory with those collected during the second (working) inventory.
Probably best to raise this as a ticket with support and let them figure out what the debugs show as the cause.

Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
- Check the tape drive. Make sure that the tape drive is properly connected to the computer and that it is turned on. You can also try restarting the tape drive.
- Check the tape media. Make sure that the tape media is clean and free of any damage. You can also try formatting the tape media.
- Check the Backup Exec settings. Make sure that the Backup Exec settings are correct for the tape media that you are using. You can also try updating Backup Exec to the latest version.
If you have tried all of these steps and the issue is still occurring, you may need to contact Veritas support for further assistance.
Here are some additional things to keep in mind:
- The issue may be related to the way that Backup Exec is communicating with the tape drive.
- The issue may be related to the way that the tape media is formatted.
- The issue may be related to a bug in Backup Exec.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
