Backup Exec failed jobs and memory leak.

Hi all.  I am having a lot of problems with a backup exec server.

Physical Machine - Windows Server 2008 R2, 16GB RAM, Intel Xeon X5650 2 x 2.67GHz.  Virtual Memory set to auto. The only applications running are Backup Exec 2010 R3 service pack 2 and SQL Server Express 2005.

The main problems are:

1. A memory leak.  The RAM slowly increases to maximum over a few days then causes the machine to hang.

2. Backup Exec errors:

Error             : e00002fe - Cannot log on to MAPI with the specified credentials. Review the resource credentials for the job, and then run the job again.
-----
Error             : e000847e - This edition of the product is not licensed for the requested operation.  (I am fully licensed!)
-----

I've tried to update Backup Exec by clicking About then LiveUpdate, but it says I am up to date.  Is this true?  I found a patch to install the memory leak but I cannot see a download option, even when logged in.  So perhaps I am not eligable.

If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it.

  • Hi Paul,

If there is a patch to repair a memory leak, just download it manually and install it.

Also make sure that if you have an AV on the server, that it isn't actively scanning your BE service processes. If need be, you can put in exclusions for them.

For this error message: This edition of the product is not licensed for the requested operation:

Make sure that you're not trying to back up something you don't have a license for, or that you tried with a 60-day evaluation license. Check the job log to see what it refers too, and then edit that out of your selection list.

    Thanks!
