Backup Job not Finishing Automatically

Hi All,

We've recently moved over to Backup Exec 2012 (after using 2010 for a number of years).

We currently have two servers that each have a backup job to a single tape, the first job which backs up the DC starts at 7pm and finishes at around 10pm, then at 11pm our SQL server is then backed up.

One problem we've encountered however is after the SQL Server is finished backing up it just sits there running still waiting for input saying "Please remove media from drive" when you acknowledge the alert the job finishes as expected.

Could anyone share information on how to stop this happening? As it's getting annoying having to log onto the server each morning to finish the job manually.

  • Hi,

You need to configure media remove alert to automaticaly respond with yes after 1 min. in alerts and configuration.

    Thanks,

  • In BE console click on the BE icon on Top left and go to Configuration and Settings --> Alert categories --> Media Remove. Here you could set the alert to be auto responded in xx mins.

If this is greyed out for some reason browse to the Backup Exec install folder and run beutility.exe. Once you add and select the Media Server, from services Tasks, click Edit Configuration and Under 'Automated alert responses' configure the respond with for the required alert. This technote should help you with the BEUtility steps.

  • Thank's for all your responses - I've told the alert to respond after 5 minutes if no user interacts with it and will see how the job goes tonight.
