Backup to Disk with Compression enabled is very slow ... any tuning options?

Hi,

my backup is stable for the past month and i would like to enable compression for the backup to disc jobs.

For most normal backup2disc jobs (Hyper-V, Exchange, SQL) the job rate ist about 28-34GB/min.
If i enable compression for the same job, it slows down to 4-5GB/min.

Where is the bottleneck, is it the Host or the Client System?

Is there any option for tuning the compression method or the number of CPU´s that are used for compression?

Thanks

  • Please check performance log of CPU, RAM and special for disk during the backup window.

      Thanks,

i verified the Backup Server and the Host.

During compressed, encrypted or normal Backup both Servers show no sign of CPU load, Memory load.

During compressed backup i see that the disk read/write operations is very low 120MB/s (read) ; 120 MB/s (write).
During normal backup i see that the disk read/write operations is high 650MB/s (read) ; 650 MB/s (write).
