BE2014 - The error "The BackupExec Server service terminated unexpectedly" happens every other day

Hello,

We have this problem on another BE2014 server that is keeping the jobs from running without intervention. For the past few days, the Backup Exec server service has been crashing with the error:

The Backup Exec Server service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 3 time(s).

These are the timestamps from the system logs.

10/05/2014  2:03:38 PM    The Backup Exec Server service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 3 time(s).
10/05/2014 2:03:18 The windows Error reporting service entered the running state
10/05/2014 2:01:57 The windows Modules installer service entered the stopped state

10/03/2014 6:38:15 AM    The Backup Exec Server service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 2 time(s)
10/03/2014 6:38:07 The windows Error reporting service entered the running state
10/03/2014 6:35:23  The windows Modules installer service entered the stopped state

10/01/2014 1:28:19 PM    The Backup Exec Server service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 1 time(s).
10/01/2014 1:28:12 the windows error reporting service entered the running state
10/01/2014 1:25:17 the windows modules installer service entered the running state

From the application logs, each Error in System log is preceded by an Event 1001. On all three instances, the event 1001 is either of these 2. Both seem to point to a SystemOutofMemoryException of System.web or Mscorlib. I am not sure why this is happening since this is just a standalone BE Server on a Windows Server 2012 Standard with 16GB of RAM. As always, thanks in advance for any help or input that you can provide.

  • Check to see if any antivirus installed isn't perhaps scanning the BE services on these days, and if so, put in an exclusion for them.

Also make sure that BE 2014 SP1 is installed, and that these patches have been push-installed to your remote servers.

    Thanks!

  • Would also recommend to exclude the "CRF" directory per http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH223209
