I'm getting a Device Paused error message only on my morning backups on version 10 Rev 5484 and also on version 10.1 SP4. This does not happen on the afternoon backups. Can someone tell me what I need to do to get rid of these errors? Do I need to recreate the morning jobs?

Could you post the exact error message. Also let us know what is device is being used (disk or tape)?
It is backing up to an external hard drive and it just says Device Paused in the Job Monitor and in the Job Status it says Device Paused in Red.
Are you using the same HDD for morning and afternoon jobs?

Is this device (Drive) detached at any point? Generally a device is paused when we cannot communicate with it. I have also seen issues if you change out the drive and don't cycle the Backup Exec Services. Each USB Attached Drive gets a globally unique identifier in Windows, so even though both may be seen as "E:\" the GUID Is different and this could be causing the issue
We use 2 removable/hot swappable drives (S: and T:). I closed out of backupexec and shut down all the backup services, restarted them, and went into backupexec again and tried to run the jobs. It goes to Running | Queued to | Device Paused again. This is only happening on the morning backups, the afternoon backups work fine. I'm stumped. Any other ideas?

It could be that some other jobs is holding on to the disks, like an AV scan.
Can you right click on the device and Unpause it (remove the check mark) and then see if it runs.
Also for testing purpose can you swap the drives and use the afternoon drive in the morning and see if it is happening with this device also?

Sush - I always make sure they are online and ready after I swap the drives. If this helps any, the S:\ Drive is for Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the T:\ drive is for Tuesday and Thursday. Also why do the afternoon backups work just fine with the same drives? I don't think it's a virus thing because it would stop it in the afternoon too if this were the case. The device goes offline when the morning jobs are running so I put it back online, then the status says Queued and the clock starts running with 0 bytes being backed up. Soon after, the status goes to device paused. Sometimes the device will be offline again, other times it will be online and ready with nothing marked next to the pause.
Is there any alert in the Alerts tab ?
Any errors under Event Viewer ?
