error 0xe00084f4 After Upgrading HP LTO Tape Firmware to G66D (BEWS 12.5 SP1)

On 1/12/2009 I upgraded to 12.5 SP1 from 12.5.  That went fine.  Yesterday I loaded HP Library and Tape Tools for My Ultrium and discovered that a recommended firmware upgrade was available.  I've done these probably 1x a year over the past 8 years with no issues.  The firmware upgrade went fine.  I reboot the media server it was on just in case.

 

Now all backup jobs to tape fail with:

Job ended: Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 11:00:06 PM
Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe00084f4 - An unknown error has occurred.
Final error category: System Errors

That link points to several possible causes, 1. Several involve using Backup Exec older versions and tape drivers, 2. Article says a conflict with HP Server Management Agents.  We need these agents on the server where Backup exec is installed to monitor the health of the server itself.

Any ideas?
  • Disabling the "HP Insight event notifier service" appeared to fix this.

  • I just attempted to turn off HP insight Storage agents, Management agents, and Server agents, and the issue still occurs.
