job getting hanged in BE 2010

Hi,

 

I have recently installed BE 2010 on WIN 2008 std version. i have tested backing up couple of files and folders successfully. I have a backup job with which needs to backup 4 windows servers and 1 lotus notes server. The job runs for sometime and all of a sudden it got hangs, i.e no change in the the backup job Byte count and Job rate. 

Background:

 

BE  version: 2010 sp1 (media version :13.0)

OS: Win 2008 std SP2

SQL : sql 2005 sp4

 

Also when i try to cancel the active job, the job is getting hanged with cancel pending. I have to stop the BE services everytime to cancel the job. FYI, after installing BE 2010,  i have installed all the updates that were detected by live update. Not sure whether any update is causing the issue or not.

    Finally, the issue got resolved. The client machine has got another backup software (arcserve) which is causing the BE job from creating snapshot. Stopping the services of arcserve also doesnt helped us.To isolate the issue, we have installed BE agent on a new server which doesnt have arcserve client installed, able to backup and cancel the jobs successfully.

    Are you using disk or tape to perform backup operaion?

    If tape standalone or tape library?

    Any alerts waiting for response?

    I think Media insert alert may be causing this issue..

    Hi Sridar,

     

    Does this hang on a certain server? If so, which 1 is it? If you're backing them all up in 1 job, why not split the database backups from the data backups and see if this resolves it?

    An update MIGHT be causing the issue if this happened after installing them, but that's not a given. I take it you pushed out your patches via a push-install to the 4 remote servers as well? If not, please do so and try the job again!

    Hi,

    I am using tape to backup the data, also no alerts. In fact the backup job got hanged when trying to backup a particular server. Today morning, i have created another job and included the server and was able to backup successfully. Trying to repeat the same for the remaining servers before the original backup job runs tonight.

    Go to Help --> About --> Installed Updates. It will show SP1 as an installed update!

     

    Again, which server is failing the backups?

    No luck. was able to backup of 2 servers successfully. But when i tried to backup the third server the job status doesnt show any job byte count and job rate after 15 min.

    How do i find out the exact version of BE installed? I have installed BE 2O10, but not sure whether it got upgraded to BE2010 R2 SP1 after the live update?

    I have attached the screenshot for your reference.

    I can see sp1 in the installed update. does this mean i had BE 2010 R2 SP1?

     

    As mentioned in my previous post, instead of backing up all at a time in a single job, i am backing up inividually to isolate the issue.I have successfully backed up 2 servers, but when tried to backup the third server i couldnt see the job byte count anf job rate though the job is running.

    Also it seems this is a known issue as most of them have similar experience with BE 2010 R2 SP1.

    Just found that clients machine cannot ping the media servers using the netbios name. i have added the dns  server entries to ping using netbios name. Will try to run the backups again to check my luck :-)

    Yep, that would be the case. If it shows up there it is installed!
