Run a cleaning tape on the library and try a backup again. It might also be worth your while to get hold of the Dell tape utility, stop the BE services, and then do a write test on a hardware utility level to see if you still get slow speeds.

You should also do a copy of files from the server/s giving you speed issues to the media server to rule out possible network issues. I also assume you've tried to restart the server?

Lastly, BE 2010 R3 is what you should be running with all the latest patches. It might not fix your immediate problem, but it did address a number of issues with the previous 2 versions. Your current licenses are valid, and you'd run LiveUpdate after upgrading the media server, before push-installing these patches to any remote servers you have.

If you are using the archive bit method, try changing to the modified time method.

Hi thanks for both your repalys,

what I dont understand is, if this has some thig to do with tape or software, I have a second job that use the same tape to backup exchange server and this job running like always as it should, so it cannot be the tape issue, also cannot be software issue becuse as I siad I have 3 more job that backup other things and they run also corect.

@ PKH I will check your suggestion later (becuse the job still running) I will let you know what is the rsult.

Check whether there is any other jobs or processes, like AV scans, which runs on the same resources that are backed up by the job.  These could slow things down.

I did change the option that you mentioned to the USe modify time. I ill keep an eye on this job for tonight and see what happens.

also I did check the AV and I can not see any process at time of the backup.

I did follow your suggestion and change the option to modify, but still take a long time to back-up. I did create a new job (didn't select the files that muset be backup manually but choose the problematic job and use that).

when start the backup for the first 40 gb I could see the really high speed but when I came to backup files from one server in the network I could see that speed repedly came down.

Any idea where should we look next?

When you change to the modified time method, did you do a full backup before you do the incr/diff?  If not, you should do a full backup before continuing your incr/diff backup.

When you specify the modified time method, did you also select to use the USN journal?  You should use the journal.

If changing the backup method does not improve the speed, then there is something at the source that is holding things up.  You would just have to do a lot of detective work to find out what that is.

I did exclude the beremote.exe on the target server. at the moment the backu still running and after adding it there I dont see any differnce in speed.

by copy I mean I did create a new job and when create the new job from the selection list drop down menu I choose the problematic job so I didnt have to select all of the shares and files again, is this good idea? or I should create a new job and select all of the folders again?

Nope, by copy I mean that you take a selection of files and do a Windows-based copy of these files to the media server from the remote server giving you issues. A couple of GB should do, and take note of the time.
