many .bkf files when I only want to see one

Backupexec 9.1.  I have a daily backup job that has its attributes:

when this job begins: overwrite media, no appends.

I also have the media set properties overwrite protection set to none

under device properties:
max. size for backup-to-disk files is set to 100gb
max. number of backup sets (.bkf files) per backup-to-disk file is set to 1

I formatted my backup destination disk clean and run this job and it created 7 different .bkf files ranging in all sizes ( 23gb, 2gb, .5gb, etc...)

all i want to see is one .bkf(roughly 30gb) a day.  And then that .bkf file will be overwritten next week when that drive is used again.

why is this not happening?  what am I missing?
