NAS Folder keeps going off line ??

Thanks for your concern.

The problem is not really fixed. Every day I try to work on it and do something to fix it. I have even changed the cables on the NAS so to that I confirm that the cable is good.

*Where I am right now.
Recently I created a new folder, (at your or someone on the news groups suggestion) This did not fix anything.

* Interesting Observation However
I changed all of the jobs to be stored from \\NAS Folder to the new \\NAS Folder 2.
One job I forgot to change. And the next day I came back and the folders were sill on-line. Foolishly I didn't click into what I may have discovered. I then noticed that this job I had not changed to point the new NAS folder and made the changes just like the rest. Well things kept going off line in the night. I then realized perhaps what I had discovered. "Could it be that one of the jobs is taking the NAS off line ??" Unfortunately I couldn't remember which of the jobs it was that I moved. Sooo I have been over the last few days moving one job at a time back to see what happens. Last night it stayed up all night. So what I have to continue to test is whether It was one of the jobs causing the NAS folder to go off line or if it just a fluke that it happened. It is a long weekend this weekend so it will be a good test as to if if goes off line.

So to answer your question I don't know if it is resolved or not. I AM Active in trying to resolve the solution.

Perhaps you/someone could answer a few questions while I wait a few days to see if I have solved it.


1. Could a particular job cause my NAS Folder device to go off line ??? Is this possible.

2. One of the errors that I get when it does go off line (although not always) is.

Final error: 0x4f1 - The system detected a possible attempt to compromise security. Please ensure that you can contact the server that authenticated you.

Final error category: Other Errors

I think the attempt to compromise is a red herring. But "what does it all mean".

3. Finally perhaps a stupid question but when I'm on the Backup Exec software from my personal workstation and try to see the status of the Services though "Tools\Backup Exec Services" a screen opens saying that my "Account may not have sufficient rights to make changes on system \\BACKUP. Please verify that you have administrator rights before making any changes to the remote systems service configuration using this tool."

Then when the Backup Exec Services Manager opens the display says that the Server - BACKUP - Server Status - is - Access Denied. (this is where Veritas is loaded BACKUP)

I also see that my computer/workstation listed in the same window "IT02" the status is Stopped. This second status may NOT be important because its not the backup machine its just my workstation.

I'm not the IT administrator although I have considerable rights. Is there a way to give me rights to the backup software so that I can see the status of the BACKUP rather than Access Denied and does this cause problems when I'm restarting the service. I'm sick and tired of every day going to the BACKUP computer and restarting the service so that it can bring the NAS folders back on line.

As you have mentioned NAS has Windows 2003 Appliance OS running,have you also installed remote agent on it ?

Also when manually run a test backup,does it run ? (after restarting BEWS Services ) Only scheduled backups are not running ?

Check for the related Event Ids and update us on the same ....

Search for the error message in SGMON log file as you can not post this file...

Update us on the same and revert for any further Query

1. I have loaded the Remote Agent onto the NAS. We shall see if the folders go off line tonight.

2. Yes when the folders are online I can run the jobs manually and they run. I have done this several times as they are not running at night.

3. If by event Ids you mean things in the event log. I dont see anything that raises my head.

4. I have searched the SGMON for error messages. I dont see anything that is particularly revealing. I have posed below one section that contains info about our NAS folder and associated error messages. Since I dont really know what Im looking at perhaps its more telling to some of you all. It doesnt say much to me. And indeed this may be a section of no relevance to the problem. All I can do is cut what may be related. I will get back to you tomorrow or the next day with results of what the remote agent did.

Well they went off line again last night.

So loading the remote Agent didnt do anything ??

Create three different Backup to disk folders and then seperate the backups on these three backup to disk folders

Check if the backup to disk folders then go offline..
