Migration NBU
This will have to be a phased upgrade because of OS compatibility (http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH59978 ):
On Solaris 9 master:
Upgrade to NBU 6.5. See http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH52753
Ensure all is working properly for a week or so.
Prepare new Solaris 10 server with same hostname and same 6.5 NBU.
Use info in TN http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH77448 to use hot catalog backup and restore to migrate catalogs to new server.
After this migration to new server, you can start with preparation to upgrade to 7.5 : http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH74584
About LTO2 media and LTO4 drives: YES, it works, but this can get tricky/confusing.
NBU default densities for LTO drive types are as follows:
LTO1 - hcart
LTO2 - hcart2
LTO3 - hcart3
LTO4 - hcart
LTO5 - hcart2Next, to allow mounts of certain media type in the drives, the media density in NBU must match the density of the drive, regardless of different media types and drives that are compatible at hardware level.
Now, if you allow NBU defaults and follow above steps to migrate catalogs, all of your old LTO2 tapes will be type hcart2 and your new LTO5 drives and media will also be hcart2 - NOT GOOD!!
So, when you add the LTO5 drives and media, you should manually change it to a different density (hcart or hcart3) and create barcode rules to automatically add the LTO5 media to match the drive density.
Add LTO4 drives as hcart2 to match density of LTO2 tapes.
Your alternative is to start fresh on the new master with latest 7.5 software and start importing all old tapes.... or keep old system around for restores (depending on retention levels).
