Restore the BackupExec him self ?

Hello,

i have few questions about recovering my BE server.

I haven't EndPointProtection, neither IDR, and i would like to know if there is a procedure in order to restore my BE server, even if i have many operations to do before being operational.

Generally, the best mean is:

- install a new OS on a new server

- install Backup Exec

- import backup set in the new BE server

- restore BE server with imported backup set (SQL, HDD, system state) of crashed BE server.

Are you agree with that, or i miss something important ? Maybe IDR or EPP is mandatory to do this ?

  • 1) Install OS

    2) Install Backup Exec on a different drive.

    3) Perform inventory and then catalog the tapes

    4) Run restore of the C drive and System state.

    5) Reboot the server and the restore other drives.

  • Hi,

I think Amol missed a few steps there...that assumes you are already backing up your Catalogs and Data folders in order to keep your job and media information etc.

Furthermore, the Data folder will keep a copy of your BEDB, which dumps to disk every night (4AM if I remember correctly). From this you'd simply do the above, and after installing BE, point BEutility to this bedb.bak file which will import all that information again.

Alternatively, if you were using the SQL agent, you'd simply restore that from tape.

    Thanks!
