Test run succeeds %100 but actual job fails randomly

Hi all. Bit of a noob when it comes to BackUp exec. We're running 2010 R3 and having some issues with backing up our main company file area.

We have 2 file servers, one in our datacentre, which replicates to one at our office. The tapedrive and backup server are also in our office, so we're attempting to backup the replicated files. The servers are Win 2008R2 using File Services\DFS.

Test runs succeed %100, but the actual scheduled nightly and weekly jobs fail.

Our Exchange 2010 backups are fine, they finish %100 every night, and also an external device we have a backup job configured for as well.

I can provide more technical details and logs upon request :-)

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Cheers Shane.

  • Try stopping the replication during the backup.

  • Are you backing up the server in your office or in the remote location?  Also have you tried backing the entire shadow copy component, rather than selecting bits of it?  Did you tried backing up DSF directory with a short path?

  • the server staff work off is in our datacentre, this server replicates back to one in our office, we're trying to take our tape backups of this replicated server, in our office.

i will also try doing a backup of the entire path as well, rather than bits.

  • hey question (test job with the entire path running now), does the BackupExec agent need to be installed locally on the backup server (as well as the servers I wish to back up)?

  • The BE remote agent is automatically installed in the media server as part of the BE installation.   There is no need for a seperate install.

  • Try stopping the replication during the backup.
