User rights for external hard disk

Hello,

I'm using Backup Exec 10 with newest updates. Operating system is SBS 2003. I'm backing up to tape and also to external Lacie hard disk. My question is about the rights.

The user rights (user/password) for the Lacie are the same as for the Backup Exec. Is it possible to give different rights for the lacie and not to use the same rights as the backup exec? I'm asking this because if the user account properties will change in the future, the external hard disk is going to be access denied...(?)

  • The hard drive or folder on the Lacie MUST allow the BackupExec Service account access or the backup will fail. If you can specify an account in the format "machine_name\userid" or "domain_name\userid" (like Windows allows) when the BackupExec service account password changes, it won't matter.
  • Hello,

As suggested be Ken and Gauri, the account will need rights on the external disk else it won't be able to use the device.

Did you try the steps suggested? Revert in case you still have queries on this.
