How to put CA into read-only mode

Hi,

We are performing DR failover testing and would like the EV and CA servers to be in backup mode.  It is straight-forward to put EV into backup mode.  We do have journaling connector installed and random sampling enabled.  Anyone know how to do it for CA without shutting down the CA Admin service?

The conern is we don't want the default sampling runs to happen at 8pm and 1am.  But we do want to bring up CA on the DR server to test.

I see there is an option to uncheck "Enable background processing of captures items".  Would that stop the pre-smapling and sampling from running at the prescribed times?

Thanks,

  • Hello, Fremont;

    As I understand your requirements, you want to stop CA at the main site and run it from the DR site.  If this is correct, you'll have a CA server in the DR site that you'll need your users to access. That means you'll need to stop the Enterprise Vault Accelerator Manager Service (EVAMS) at the main site and have the DR site's CA server running.  To prevent users from running new searches in the DR site, you should stop the 'Customer's Background Tasks' from the EVBAAdmin site on the DR CA server.  This will allow them to access the DR site, but not run any searches, reviews or exports.  Random sampling should not run either as that processing should be kicked off by a background task, but I've not personally tested that.

    Kind Regards,

  • Your safest bet would be to stop the CA Accelerator Admin service during this time.

  • Thanks Tony.  That's what we are planning to do.  But after failover the customer wants to test to see if clients can connect, etc, without creating new data while CA is running from the DR site.

    Checked the doc on that setting and it looks like that controls the processing of the sampling data.  I think it should do it.

    Thanks again.

  • Sorry, skipped over the part where you said you wanted to customer to be able to test CA. :)

     I suggested stopping the CA service to prevent users for access and possilby update CA by reviewing, running searches, etc...

    You could always take a backup of the CA database in case you needed to restore it back to pre-DR testing.
