Change retention category on archived items

Hello everybody,

I need one clarification since I was reading different answers on different forums and articles.

I have implemented FSA Enterprise Vault for file archiving.

My colleague which was installing EV at beginnig set default Retention Category for all archives (default category state that all archives are preserve forever)

I was thinking to change retention category to 10 years, so my question is, how it's gonna affect on current archives?

Are they gonna get new setting (ID) from new retention category when new tas run, or they will keep their current retention settings?

Thank you in advance

  • Hello Soxy,

    Confusing indeed

If you need you OLD/existing archives (or better, the items in those archives) to also have the new retention value, you need to change the EXISTING retention policy.

If you create a new retention policy, then set that as default, it will only apply to items archived as of the time that new category was enabled. This means that old items will stay forever, and new items will (eventually) expire.

If you have an ok from the company (legal/compliance etc) to change the retention to 10 years, I would change the current active retention category to that, to make sure already archived items will expire when older than 10 years.

  • Thank you Gertjan.

    That was helpful indeed...

I will change settings on default retention policy then...

  • Your welcome.

Can you mark one entry as solution? That will make clear to others not to check the issue, or find an answer.

  • Yes Gertjan, I intent to mark it as solved, but I didn't find button to click it... :)

Thank you Tony Sterling for done that for me.

    It was my solution.
