DA 11.0.1 to 12.4 Upgrade steps

Hi All

Just a quick question on Upgrading from Discovery Accelerator DA 11.0.1 to DA 12.0.4. which I will be doing for a customer.

I have been reading the upgrade instruction here and have been checking the pre reqs etc and reading the 12.0.4 Installation instructions which say to have the original DA 12.0 binaries

https://sort.veritas.com/DocPortal/pdf/ev_123_DAUpgradeInstructions_en

What I cannot fathom is do I install DA 12. base first / upgrade databases and then install the DA 12.0.4 and upgrade databases again.  Or do I just run the DA 12.0.4 and it asks for the original binaries and upgrades from DA 11 to 12.04  in one go with one update of the binaries.

Thanks in advance SP

      Thanks

I think i was getting confused with all of the different versions of EV 12 that have been released and the version numbering.

Realy is a pain when you have a previous version of 12. to get to 12.3.1.

I think I had to download and apply 4 different versions to get to 12.3.1.

That is not good when you have 5 servers

        Hello,

I understand where your confusion comes from, but the versioning is reasonably simple.

Major version, minor version, service pack/hotfix.

        11.0.1 CHF5 as example, and for 12, 12.3.1 = version 12, minor version 3, service pack 1

In theory, the minor version always is a full install. this means that you can install 12.3 fresh, and have a full install. The CHF/SP need to be applied on the specific version, and most of the time require also a database upgrade.

Each release has an upgrade.pdf, which describes what to do. Luckily, upgrading the databases is possible using 1 command. In your scenario, I see 3 upgrades: 11.0.1 to 12.0.4, then 12.0.4 to 12.3, then 12.3 to 12.3.1. However, you can also do 11.0.1 to 12.3, then 12.3 to 12.3.1

And, read the information attached with 12.3.1. It might very well be that the fixes in there are for features in EV you do not use. You could then decide to wait for 12.4 (or whatever is going to be released next).
