Migrating a Closed Partition

Hi,

What are the pro's and con's of performing an EV native migration of a closed partition from fast disk to slower cheaper disk in a SAN environment? We have built our EV servers with 5 fast disk partitions,

1. Operating System

2. Partition1

3. Partition2

4. Partition3

5. Index

Each partition is approximately 150GB for EV Partitions and we roll over when volume reaches 15GB free.

We recently added another windows partition based on slower disk in the SAN and want to migrate partition1 (Closed) to the slower disk. Users currently have about 60GB in partition2 and this will roll over when the windows partition reaches 15GB free. Partition1 has had collections enabled for some weeks now.

Two questions.

1. How do we tell if collections is finished on Partition1?

2. Is there any other configuration or software needed to migrate partition1 to the slower disk other than the migration partition tab on the partition properties dialogue box?

Thanks for your help.

Paul.

  • I guess what you would need to do is Move the parition to another location using the following document

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH35742

The migration option currently is used with NBU which moved the Data to a teriary location. The retriveal time increases when you have migration enabled as when the use tries to retrive any email it triggers a restore job in NBU.

"Enterprise Vault does not collect files until they have been backed up. Do not set the elapsed time to less than your backup frequency, otherwise Enterprise Vault wastes resources repeatedly checking whether the files have been backed up." abstract from admin guide.

Have read of the following technote:
