Quick Confirmation - PST Migration and Expiry Process
Hello
We're running Enterprise vault 9.0.4 CU5 in our environment. Currently we're on closure point for PST migrration from complete environment using EV server driven & client driven wizards and looking to start up some expiry process on users inbox & sent items folders (default folders) accordingly.
We're moving PST files/personal folders in a different folder outside inbox/sent items.
I was wondering following scenario: We enable expiry on user's inbox and at same time his PST files are still migrating or going to be migrated. Consider user has moved "vaulted items" or shortcuts or stubs in his PST file from within his Inbox folder.
So in above scenario, will expiry process delete the item for good? or will PST process be able to create those items again within archive post PST migration?
Thoughts?
Thank You.
AKL,
If you import the PST back to the archive and you select the option to create shortcuts, EV will create new shortcuts in the mailbox. If the old archived data was already expired, the current EV shortcuts in the mailbox are already orphaned.
Now, if you import the same data back to the archive, Enterprise Vault will assign a new saveset ID to each item; thus, the old EV shortcut will not work either. In this case, you should select the option to create shortcuts in the mailbox and run orphaned shortcuts to remove the old shortcuts from the mailbox.
For Storage Expiry, since you have modified date, SE will expire any item where the modified date (not the archived date) is older than the retention category applied. Hence, the PST data that was just imported would be orphaned again, since the saveset will be expired by SE. Of course, this statement is based on the fact that you have a retention category, for instance, of 2 years and the email was sent/received more than 2 years ago.
