Any good read/Explanation on NBU schedulers (frequency based/Calendar based)

Hi Guys,
 
Request same as in the subject line,the simpler the better...Also,can anybody tell me what is the significance of the "resolution" drop down box in the NBU policy->Schedule->Start window->resolution ?
why it is there and when to use it ?

    Calendar based schedules:
    Calendar based schedules for backups of the same schedule type, and in the same policy, are dependent on one another. For example, only one full calendar based backup will run on any give day even if the start windows are different for different full schedules.

    Calendar scheduling means backups are using a single day (00:00:00 - 23:59:59) frequency. So, there should only be one backup of a specific type on that day.  

    Today, each schedule in a policy shares the calendar. The scheduling software has priorities (order) for the schedule types: full, cumulative, then differential. There is no priority for the synthetic backups so they would fall after the differential.  Also note that if two calendar schedules of the same type within a policy are due at the same time, the selection process of which schedule to run is random. Please see TechNote 268644, found below, in the Related Documents section for more details.

    Frequency based schedules:
    In NetBackup 5.0 and higher, frequency based schedules within a policy are independent unless two policies come due at the same time. For example, if two full backup schedules come due at the same time, only one full backup will run and it is for the schedule with the larger frequency. Other schedule(s) will be skipped.

    However, if two schedules within the policy come due at different times on a given day, then two full backups will run. This is true even if the start windows overlap.

    Incremental schedules behave differently depending on the frequency. If there are multiple incremental schedules in a policy, they are independent of one another if the frequency is based on a 24 hour or 1 day duration (e.g. frequency set to 24 hours, 1 day, 2 days, 3 days, etc...).  But if the frequency for these schedules is set to something less than 24 hours, then the incremental schedules become dependent on one another.

    It's for how granular you can set the start/end time of the backup windows.

    When the Resolution is set to 5, you can only set the start time in 5 minute increments: 22:05, 22:10, 22:15, etc.
    When you set it to 10, you can start at 22:10, 22:20, 22:30, but not 22:05 or 22:15, and so on

  • Frequency - how often it will be ready to run (every hour, 5 hours, day etc.) - this is controlled in part by the "duration" which is the length of the open window during which it can start to run. The resolution is for changing the increments of your selection - down to 5 minutes, 10 minutes etc. (so with a 5 minute resolution it could run from 00:05 ot 01:05 but with a 10 minute resolution it could only run from 00:10 to 01:10 for example)

    Calendar - specific data or date patterns based on the calendar - bear in mind here that a monday is different to a tuesday so do not wrap your open backup windows across midnight
