AS400 to Netbackup 6.5

Is it possible to backup an IBM AS400 to Netbackup 6.5 or even 7?

  • Nope... Not supported: MASTER Compatibility list: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH59978

    Some old references as well:

  • Does AS400 do NFS??  If you really had to and it can do that, you could do an NFS mount and back it up that way. Not perfect but I have used it to get critical systems that were not supported.

  • Supported NDMP devices can be found in the Hardware Compatibility List (See Master Compatibility List).

    AS400 is not listed...

Seems Mark's suggestion is the best so far.

Bob Stump suggested the same in the last link that I posted above.

  • NFS and NDMP are not the same thing.  If you can do an NFS mount from a filer, then you may very well be able to do a share as well.  If you can do that, I would present the share, and then mount it to a media server where the backups would be performed.  That way the file transfer only one time across the network.
