AS400

We have an AS400 IBM system that we need to backup.  Currently we are using TSM to back it up with but that solution is end of life.   I was wondering if anyone is using Netbackup and how are they are using it?    I know that is is not supported but is there a way to do a work around using NFS maybe.

Hardware is: AS400 config. Hardware=9406-810 iSeries Server 1, OS=OS400 V5R4M0

  • Here's our answer from - whoa, 2000!

Does NetBackup support AS/400 systems as a client?

(SPOILER ALERT: It basically says "no")

But I like the NFS idea.  Good luck and let us know if it works!

  • Yes you have the answer: write your data on some nfs space on the AS400 using local commands, then backup the same nfs space with it mounted on a supported client, preferably on a client with a client license so you are not required to purchase another one.

  • No NBU agent for AS400.

If you can present AS400 data as NFS mount on supported Unix client that can be read by root on Unix client, you can backup this data.
For restores, the root user on Unix client will need write permission on the NFS mount.

Please test and confirm NFS permissions before adding the path to NBU.

  • Thank you,   I am going to run this by my server team and see if we can get it to work.
