  • How many backup streams in the 1.6TB backup?

You need to have multiple backup jobs/streams in order to use multiple tape drives.

    Please share your policy config:

    bppllist <policy-name> -U

  • Thanks,

You confirm ma solution to create many policies for my big backup.

    :-)

    A+

  • No need for many policies - you can break up one policy into multiple streams.

Allow us to help you - share what it is you need to back up.

We have in the past been able to break up one large volume on hardware raid. Good knowledge of volume layout is needed.

Increase Max Jobs per Client in Master server Global properties to something like 4 or 6, select 'Allow multiple data streams' in policy attributes, then break up backup selection in multiple streams, e.g.:

    NEW_STREAM
    G:\folder\folder1
    G:\folder\folder2
    G:\folder\folder3
    NEW_STREAM
    G:\folder\folder4
    G:\folder\folder5
    G:\folder\folder6
    NEW_STREAM
    G:\folder\folder7
    G:\folder\folder8
    G:\folder\folder9
    NEW_STREAM
    G:\folder\folder10
    ....
    ......

If MPX is set to 1, the above policy will write to 4 different drives.
If backup speed per drive does not match drive's capability, streams can be combined onto one tape drive with multiplexing and multistreaming.

We can provide better assistance if we know more about your situation.

  • @RLPicard,

Could you please post the output of bppllist <policy_name> -U under install_path\veritas\netbackup\bin\admincmd.

Also, what is the multiplexing set at the storage unit level, try bpstulist -L and post the result.
