Best Standalone Tapedrive to configure with NetBackup

Hi, All of our NetBackup clients have been moved to other backup platform. Now, we are planning to attach one standalone tapedrive with one VM netbackup server, to have restore capability for old data, which were backed up in NetBackup.

Now, I need your help to get some idea about which LTO5 standalone tape drive is best which we can procure for this purpose.

Thanks in advance.

  • It is not supported by vmware (and netbackup ) to have a tape drive inside VMware guest.

You have to use a physical system

Thanks Stefanos, if not supported with vmware then we'll go with Physical server, still can u suggest?

  • My only advice is to use the same manufacturer (IBM or HP) with the drive that took the backups to avoid incompatibilities.
You can use the fibre of a SAS tape drive, internal or external.

Just my thinking, connectivity long term is properly the most important question to have answered.
