Can Windows 7 be used as a Media Server?

Hi Everyone,

I got a VM where Netbackup is installed. That VM is on OEL5. I was just wondering can I make my Win 7 64bit Laptop as a media server. I did that but when I click on property it comes up with an error:

"Configuring Settings of the following host couldn't be obtained:

hostname

The value for this option was missing"

I have installed Netbackup Client in this laptop and later on I executed below command to make sure the media server has been added:

nbemmcmd -addhost -machinename mylaptop -machinetype media -masterserver oel5 -operatingsystem linux -netbackupversion 7.5

Does anyone have any idea whether it is possible at all?

Thanks,

NT

  • Hi,

No it cannot, NBU is only supported as a client in Win 7.

  • Chris makes a good point about the documentation, but SORT is a really good way to check these things also.  Overall, I find sort easier to understand, as sometimes the PDFs are not too clear.

    Thank you for the solution.

  • Keep this link handy (or the one in my signature):

As I type this reply, Windows 7 support can currently be found on page 23 and it's only listed for client support.
