check if tape drives are available

hello all,  I am very new to netbackup side.  I am a DB admin, my db backup are configured to go to tape...we use veritas netbackup for oracle ... 7.1

my question, how do i check from netbackup side to see if the tape drive are working/ avaiable ?? any cmd that i can run at OS level or i have access to netbackup GUI as well....

    That is right - from your screen shot and the output above it is shown in slot 70

    If you need to do a restore for data on this tape you do not need to do anything with the tape

    When you start the restore NetBackup itself will send a request to the robot to load the tape into the drive - it shouldn't matter which drive it goes in but NetBackup will put it in the appropriate one

    If you have access to the Admin Console just go to the Device Monitor section where you can see the status of the drives

    From the command line you can use:

    volmgr/bin/vmoprcmd

    To get the status of all drives

    sorry -

    On windows it is Program Files\veritas\volmgr\bin

    On unix it is user/openv/volmgr/bin

    Thank, that was what i was looking for...now another question was ... for below is there a way to interpert that ??? (or can you point me to a doc)....also another thing was...how can i map those drivePath to which file it has....for example..as i mentioned.... for oracle rman backup...we are resotring some files...rman says this(lets says con_test_file) is the file i am reading from...so how can i check in netbackup which tape drive my con_test_file sits on ??

    Here only one tape drive(STK_LTO3_00_us050) is configured, and this drive is shared by 8 servers.
    But only 3 of 8 servers are listed in "HOST STATUS", it''s odd thing.

    By the way, NetBackup does not tie data to tape drive - tie to media(tape).
    When writing to and reading from tape, NetBackup choose drive those drive type match with media type.

    As pointed out above, the actual destination of your backup is a tape, not a tape drive.

    I have seen Oracle dba's finding the media id with RMAN queries as well. You should be able to find that in Oracle/RMAN forums.

    Hopefully we have answered your initial question and this has shown that you do have some inconsistencies in your environment with Media Servers being off line and some device configured for media servers that do not seem to exist.

    As explained the tape drive is not required for your restore - just the tape itself so follow Mariannes advice in relation to that one

    If you feel that your original question has been answered please use the Mark As Solution the post that helped to assist others in the future looking for a similar solution.

    If, as a result of this you need other issues resolving (missing media servers etc.) then it is best to start a new thread for that rather than have this one go off track

    Thanks...i have found the media id from netbackup side and oracle side...using below cmd 

     

    /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpclntcmd -ml /ORCL_03_01_14_00_170_1_776787411 -ct Oracle
    1 1 S00479
     
    Now my final question is how do i map the media ID (S00479) ??
     
    i want to find out where my media id  S00479 sitting at in which tape(drive path)??

    If you run vmoprcmd, you will see the media id of the tape, against the drive that the tape is in.

    hi martin,  when i run vmoprcmd cmd it dose not give me the media id of tape and stuff like that....as u can see from the output i have posted above...
