DB2 Backups Offline

Hi Team,

On every week DB2 backups are running,

Just I Want to known the information and Iam their details.

Policy type :DB2

In schdules only Default-Application Schedule is there and there nothing in Backup selection list and it is offline but it actually if it is offline why they keep policy type as DB2.

Thanks in advance...

  • Speak to the db2 admin.

If there is only  Default-Application Schedule and nothing in Backup selection, it means that they are starting backups on the db2 client - either manually or a local scheduler like cron.

If you want to know what the script is doing or the type of backup, you need to speak to the dba/admin of that system.

  • Hello,

For a database policy you would have to specify templates or scripts to be run, the list would not contain any files or directories to backup.

For more detailed information on DB2 backups check the link below (NBU 7.6 for DB2 Admin).

  • Yes,Marrianne

You are correct, they intiating the backup.

Just I want to information regarding cold backups, when cold backup intiated is there is any need manually downing any services or it is as like hot backup.

Pls elobrate the steps to take cold bkps and what services are running.

    Thanks in advance..........

  • Not sure why you are concerned about this...

When dba's initiate the backup, their commands/scripts will control the process from beginning to end.

There is nothing you need to to about this.
NBU processes/services will run as normal on the clients.
Only db status/processes will chance as per the dba scripts/commands.

You need to speak to dba if you want to understand the process on the db2 client.

As backup admin, all you need to ensure is that there is a policy to allow the backups and sufficient resources - media server, devices, media.
