drive scan host is not active

Hi,

During duplication during the day I am getting "Drive scan host is not active <storageunit>" as State Details, for the queued jobs.

It's no big issue, but shouldn't it say "Drives are in use" instead ? Because as soon as a job finishes, one of the queued jobs with the "Drive scan host is not active <storageunit>" error starts to run just fine.

My only concern is config issue somewhere :)

  • In an SSO environment, each tape drive has a Scan Host.

I'd like to see output of 'vmdareq' on master when this message is seen.

Detailed info regarding Scan Host in Shared Storage Option manual.
    short extract:
"Each shared drive has a host that is identified as the scan host. A scan host is the host from which the automatic volume recognition process (avrd) scans unassigned drives. (The robotic daemons scan assigned drives.) A scan host must have data-path access to the drive."

When I see messages like the ones you are seeing on a regular basis for a particular media server, I  drop the Scanability of that media server:
nbemmcmd -updatehost -machinename <machinename> -machinetype <master|media> -scanability (0-9)

  • Also, 9 drives showing, only 7 will ever work. 2 dont work but they scan, test, and everything just fine.
