Exclude list not working

I am running NBU 7.0.1 and backing up SQL server (windows 2003) by SQL agent, so wanted to exclude the databases from file/os backup policy. The host properties on client has the databases in file exclude list but it still backs up folder along with the .mdf and ldf files.

It's sql cluster and i have exclusion entered on both physical and virtual client in host properties. Any ideas why netbackup is still backing up files in the folder

  • Hotfix available:

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH144007
Windows client exclude list not honored when backing up a shared drive in Microsoft Windows Cluster environments following upgrade to NetBackup 6.5.6 / 7.0 / 7.0.1

    ..........

If this issue is experienced while running NetBackup 7.0.1, a hotfix is available for download here:  http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH150081

If this issue is experienced while running NetBackup 6.5.6, a hotfix is available for download here:  http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH152708

The formal fix should be included in the forthcoming NetBackup 7.1 release - currently scheduled for release in February 2011.

  • How does the registry entry look?

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VERITAS\NetBackup\Currentversion\Config\Exclude

  • Just checked it, i see the  folder path in entries in registry 3 times. Not sure if that could be the issue going to remove it duplicates.

    One is listed as

    F:\MSSQL.2\MSSQL\Data
    G:\MSSQL.2\MSSQL\Logs

    other one is

    F:\MSSQL.2\MSSQL\Data\*
    G:\MSSQL.2\MSSQL\Logs\*

  • Has the formal fix been released yet? I have the same problem at a customer and they would like to avoid the hotfix.

  • 7.1 is not yet GA - FA version was released about 2 weeks ago: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH147815
