Images missing from the catalog.

Can you clarify what you mean by fragments and images - to a NetBackup admin, an image (IMAGE) describes one backup piece, while a fragment (FRAG) is part of an image. So one IMAGE consists of one or more FRAGs. If you mean something different, that relates to an Oracle backup - can you explain what you mean and what fragments have been deleted? Otherwise, continue...
An image can have multiple copies - each FRAG for that copy will have the same expiry date (different copies may have a different expiry). If this is the case that a FRAG has been deleted from a copy of an IMAGE this is bad (and is unlikely to have been caused by NetBackup itself).
Also what was/is the storage medium that these fragments "disappeared" from - was it disk or tape? If disk what type of disk. A scenario that could explain what happened is if the storage is on basic or advnced disk, then it would be quite easy to delete one of the fragments.
