Licensed use has been exceeded (159)

Added a media server to my Netbackup Topology and added the Tape Library attached to the media server.  When attempting to add library I received error licensed use has been exceeded status:159 unless I checked "on demand".  Attempted to run backup job against tape library and received error below:

  •  Is this host configured as SAN media server with Enterprise Client License?
SAN media server can work as media server for it self only, can not work as media server for remote clients.
To avoid selection from Any available storage, storage unit on SAN media server have to have On Demand Only on.

  • Looking at the error, it looks like the media server is added as a SAN media server. As rightly said by Yasuhisa, SAN media server can only backup itself.

Try to backup the same media server and see if it works.

Also check the following technote which discusses about incorrect entry in vm.conf:

  • This is a Netbackup 6.5.3 Enterprise Server.  I am attempting to configure as a Media Server.
