LTO5 tape drive using mixed barecode labels with NetBackup

Hi

We are using NetBackup 7.5 writing to a LTO5 tape drive library. For the last year or so we used LTO3 barcode labels “000171L3” with LTO5 tapes and it worked 100%. In NetBackup it displayed as “Media type = HCART2” and “Volume Group = 001_00001_TLD”.

All our LTO3 tape labels is finished and we are using LTO5 barcode labels “000001L5” on our LTO5 tapes in the same tape library but NetBackup does not want to use the tape with the LTO5 barcode labels even though it is exactly the same type of tape “LTO5”.

The tapes with the new barcode labels is displayed in NetBackup as below.

“Media type = 8MM”

“Volume Group = 002_00001_TLD”

Please help

Thanks

  • Run "vmchange -m media_id -new_mt hcart2" for each media.

vmchange command is placed under "C:\Program Files\Veritas\Volmgr\bin" by default.

  • I would say that the media type needs to be set to hcart2 , not 4mm.

The density of the tape and the density of the drive must be the same.  It dones not matter what they are, as long as they match.

  • Hello Pieter..

One more thing just for information if you using different level of barcode..

"Don't make any change in media id generation this will create a mismatch if there will be any media of same first 6 digits"…

Like if you using 8 digit media id generation rule and u having two media of same first 6 same digits (000015L3 and 000015L6) and you changed media id generation rule to 6 digits then this will create a mismatch to media database…
