We have customers running NBU master on W2012.
I have not seen or heard of issues using this OS.You need to make up your own mind.
We can only comment on what is supported or not.
I agree with 'over provisioning' of resources and the importance of the master server.
As per 'General guidelines for support' in TECH127089:
■ NetBackup may experience lesser performance within the hypervisor. It may
be necessary to increase system resources to address a performance issue.I would personally recommend physical master over virtual.
Again - personal preference.
